About Canucks Autism Network (CAN)


Canucks Autism Network (CAN) is a charitable organization dedicated to providing programs for individuals on the autism spectrum and their families, while promoting acceptance and inclusion through community engagement and training initiatives across BC.

Our vision is for every individual on the autism spectrum to be understood, accepted, and supported in all community spaces.


We engage a workforce of over 200 volunteers and 450 frontline staff to deliver programs for children, youth, and adults on the spectrum in communities across British Columbia.

Since its inception in 2008, CAN has directly impacted over 8,000 members on the autism spectrum.


About the Position
Reporting to the Sr.

Manager of Marketing & Communications, this position will work collaboratively across departments to engage with diverse internal and external audiences.

These include CAN participants and families, staff and volunteers, donors and supporters, and the general public.


Key Functions (Main aspects of position)
Social Media

  • Monitor and schedule ongoing content across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn
  • Develop and curate photo and video content that showcases all major areas of impact, including children's programs (ie sports & rec), youth & adult programs (ie employment, social, rec, mental health & life skills) and training (ie autism workshops for community groups)
  • Respond to comments and direct messages in a timely manner
  • Attend and cover programs and/or events as needed
  • Support with creation of enewsletters for members, staff, volunteers and/or donors
  • Update and segment distribution lists on an ongoing basis
General Marketing & Communications Support

  • Maintain ongoing knowledge and mastery of brand and messaging guidelines
  • Maintain an understanding of the organization's diverse efforts across programs, training, community engagement and fundraising
  • Provide copywriting & design support
  • Respond to marketing frontline inquiries in a timely manner
  • Assist with website content creation and management
  • Create and monitor Google Ads and social media ads
  • Assist with blogs, press releases and other longform writing

Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Postsecondary education (degree or diploma) in Communications, Marketing or related field
  • 12 years experience in a Communications role preferred, but not required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional copywriting and copyediting skills
  • Ability to deliver creative and engaging content
  • Passion for social media and expertise in social media channels and emerging trends
  • Strong attentiontodetail
  • An eye for multimedia design and aesthetics
  • Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to multitask and work independently
  • Ability to master new software and processes
Additional Skills*- Understanding of autism

  • Familiarity with web design and publishing (Wordpress, HTML)
  • Experience using social media management/analytics tools
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign) or equivalent digital media editing
