Regulatory Product Manager

Location: Calgary, AB or Mississauga, ON

Where the Chemistry Happens...

We are looking for a Regulatory Product Manager (RPM) to develop and implement regulatory strategies for a portfolio of products with the goal of ensuring timely registrations that meet commercial objectives. Current product registrations are maintained and supported with appropriate technical information as part of a broad product stewardship process.

As an expert on the Canadian regulatory requirements and policies, the RPM provides guidance to regulatory teams and leadership on what is required to ensure timely and successful product registrations. This senior role brings scientific, regulatory affairs, and policy-related strategic abilities to address complex regulatory issues impacting our key current and future registrations.

Formula for Success: You Will...

• Support the business goals of their Molecule Team (Long-range Planning Process), develop a registration strategy, timeline and project plan that optimizes the commercial opportunity.
• Manage a project plan that identifies the information necessary to complete a Canadian federal submission and series of actions (new studies, budget, resourcing extant work) to Canadian regulatory agencies.
• Act as the Canadian regulatory expert on both Canadian and North American project teams and work closely with Production/Logistics, Marketing and biology champion functions in the project management process to ensure project coordination.
• Monitor Canadian and international regulatory trends and serve on industry/expert committees to achieve balanced and practical regulatory requirements to ensure continued access to innovation and products for Canadian growers.
• Answer data-call-ins and respond to regulators questions, liaising with BASF personnel in the US and Germany as appropriate acting as the main BASF Canadian contact to PMRA.
• Respond to Canadian Re-evaluation, renewals, Canada-specific lab, greenhouse, modelling or field studies; conception and/ or management of these studies is the responsibility of the RPM.
• Understand the Canadian landscape (and to a lesser extent, international) and regulations and policies governing crop protection products ensuring freedom-to-operate. Active participant and BASF's representative on industry associations in the field of their scientific expertise.
• Work closely with fellow regulatory colleagues to ensure knowledge sharing of experience and best practices occur across the team. Work with their colleagues to create best management practices and processes when efficiencies or new processes are identified.

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You...

• MS in agriculture field or related scientific discipline with 12+ years' experience in the pesticide industry, with minimum 8 years' experience with pesticide registration or, BA/BS degree in agriculture or related scientific discipline with 15+ years' experience in the pesticide industry, with minimum 10 years' experience in pesticide registration and/or regulatory affairs.
• Comprehensive working knowledge of the PCPA with a proven track record for successfully registering complex pesticide active ingredients and formulations.
• Developed regulatory strategies to obtain, maintain and defend active ingredient and product registrations.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and actively participate in multi-company task forces and industry trade association committees.
• Demonstrated effective and influential communication and negotiation skills to all levels and audiences, internally (project teams to Executive management) and externally with Regulatory Authorities and NGOs.
• In-depth understanding of the Canadian pesticide registration process, including environmental and human health risk assessments, as well as Pest Control Products Act (PCPA) and regulations.
• Thorough understanding of emerging regional regulatory issues and changes (i.e. Transformation Agenda); Global Regulatory issues impacting the Canadian Pesticide Markets (EU, MRLs, PICs, POPs, etc).
• Excellent Project Management skills.
