Job Summary:


Reporting to the Leads, Geoscience, the Geologist will be responsible for supporting a large and complex mineral deposit development program on site.

Duties primarily consist of collecting detailed geological, geometallurgical, and geotechnical data from drill core, and implementing a rigorous QA/QC program, while upholding rigorous safety standards and working as part of a driven geoscience team.

The position is focused on a drilling program at Galore Creek, a world-class porphyry copper-gold deposit that is currently being evaluated in a prefeasibility study.

Located in northwestern British Columbia, Galore Creek is one of the world's largest undeveloped porphyry copper-gold-silver deposits.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Be a courageous safety leader; lead by example and foster a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on the common values of health, safety, environment, and communities shared by the asset owners (Teck and Newmont).
  • Actively seek opportunities to recognize health and safety hazards, resolve safety issues and work to mitigate associated risks in the workplace.
  • Collect and interpret detailed geochemical, lithological, structural, and mineralogical data from drill core, while integrating other geological, geophysical, and geochemical datasets.
  • Collect a variety of sample types for analytical, metallurgical, petrographic, and geochronological purposes.
  • Plan, collect and ship samples, while upholding and implementing GCMC's industryleading QA/QC programs and protocols.
  • Support drill rig management, complete drill site visits and inspections.
  • Utilize digital logging software, interpret field data, and produce updated crosssections.
  • Support development of 3D geological models for lithology, alteration, structure, and mineralization.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the project team on geotechnical, metallurgical, resource, exploration, mining, and environmental data collection and integration.
  • Produce presentations, reports, cross sections, and maps for work completed during the field season.
  • Mentor and show leadership to other members of the geoscience team.

Qualifications:


  • Degree in Geoscience or a related technical discipline from an accredited curriculum; students in the final year(s) of their program will be considered.
  • Two years of mining experience preferred; relevant field or academic project work is an asset.
  • Eligible (or future eligibility) for Professional registration with Engineers & Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC).
  • Knowledge of fieldbased geoscience data collection, including geological, geophysical, and geochemical exploration techniques; understanding of porphyry and epithermal mineral system geology is an asset.
  • Previous experience working with drill rigs and helicopters is an asset.
  • Strong computer skills, with experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with specialized software for geological interpretations is an asset, including Leapfrog Geo, IoGAS, ArcGIS, geological logging software, and data management software.
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of data analysis techniques; familiarity with QA/QC sampling procedures is an asset.
  • Experience working in a diverse and multicultural environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; the ability to write clear and concise reports is particularly important, as well as the ability to present technical information to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to liaise with contractors and all persons on site in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Ability to safely and comfortably lift 40 lb / 18 kg core boxes.
  • A resultsfocused attitude and strong time management skills.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's license.
