Reporting to the Supervisor, Operations - Roads, this position performs all aspects of work related to the servicing, maintenance and inspection within the Town's Right of Ways in both urban and rural settings including but not limited to roads, sidewalks, traffic control devices, ditches, culverts, bridges, storm sewers, street trees, streetlights, and works yards.

Under the direction of the immediate Supervisor or Senior Operator carries out all duties using appropriate equipment effectively and in a manner that will ensure the safety of self, co-workers and the general public.


How you contribute to our organization:

  • Safely operate and maintain all applicable equipment. Record deficiencies in the Vehicle Inspection Report. Keep all documents up to date in accordance with MTO and Town requirements. Make minor running repairs to equipment while on the job.
  • Perform installation of temporary traffic control devices such as lane and road closures,
- detours, flagging and all other required work zone safety requirements as per the

  • Ontario Traffic Manual Book
  • Repair and maintain the road and sidewalks networks in an urban and rural environment (cold patching, saw cut and asphalt removals, tack coating, and hot laid asphalt paving).
  • Maintain ditches and grade gravel roads and shoulders.
  • Conduct winter maintenance operations.
  • Perform right of way street sweeping and flushing.
  • Applies roadway and parking lot markings.
  • Performs landscaping and tree maintenance by trimming and removing trees as directed. Cuts and chips tree waste as needed. Prepares areas and plants grass seed or lays sod where required.

What you bring to the team:

  • Requires successful completion of Grade 12 high school diploma
  • Requires a Class DZ (or higher) driver's licence, and the ability to submit a clean driver's abstract upon hire.
  • 23 years of experience in a similar position would be an asset.
  • Requires Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification or willingness and ability to complete within one month of hire.
  • Ability to pass a fit test.
  • Must be competent and have a sound knowledge in the operation of all assigned equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Heavy Equipment Operator Training/Certification for the following items would be an asset:
snow plow, sidewalk machine, motor grader, backhoe, loader, street sweeper, excavator.

  • Must demonstrate sound knowledge of maintenance and construction practices as well as construction equipment and vehicles. T.J. Mahoney Construction and Maintenance modules and Snow School from the OGRA Roads School courses would be an asset.
  • Must be comfortable using electronic devices such as tablets, iPads and laptop computers.

Pay Rate:
$ , plus employer paid benefits and OMERS pension plan


Hours: 40 hours per week
