Position: Communications Manager (Areas of Focus: Social Media, Executive Communications, Media Relations)

We are seeking a marketing communications professional with deep social media and executive communications experience to supercharge our brand communications. The successful candidate has excelled in creative, narrative, non-profit and business communications. This is an exciting opportunity for a versatile writer with strong social media management skills to support the mission of a leading education non-profit in a variety of ways including making a meaningful contribution to amplifying our brand voice and increasing our reach.
The role of the Communications Manager is a highly collaborative position who partners with team members, as well as senior executives, other staff and contractors to deliver industry leading results for the organization.
Applicants will be asked to submit a portfolio of work with at least 2 types of writing samples.
Candidates should expect and be prepared to commit to quarterly air travel for in-person activities.

Who We Are: Facing History & Ourselves uses lessons of history to challenge teachers and their students to stand up to bigotry and hate. For more than 40 years, Facing History has provided a transformative experience for educators and their students, and the mindsets and skills we foster — empathy for others, critical thinking, moral reasoning, and sense of agency — help to create a world guided by knowledge and compassion. The world is in dire need of this kind of education and our goal over the next three years is to increase our impact as an organization by expanding and deepening our engagement with educators, schools, and districts. Facing History operates from 9 offices in the United States, Canada, and the UK, includes 185+ staff members, and maintains a budget approaching $40 million.
The Facing History Marketing and Communications Team is composed of 14 staff members who lead the organization's marketing, communications, brand, and public relations strategy.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
Manage and execute organization's social media channels, including drafting, posting, monitoring and improving (60%)
Copywriter for senior executive leadership communications including thought leadership articles, monthly leadership newsletter, conference applications and preparation (30%)
Support earned media strategy, track earned media mentions, brief and prep Facing History leaders, educators, and students for media engagement (15%)
Collaborate with team members to build & maintain the content team editorial calendar to ensure communications are consistent with organization's objectives, tone and voice (5%)
Manage a variety of short and long-term projects related to Marketing and Communications.

Minimum of 3+ years experience in social media management, executive communications, and/or media relations a must
A strong understanding of writing for digital platforms including websites, Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter)
Excellent versatile writer with a dynamic, flexible voice
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and tasks
Adept at using technology, especially Google suite of applications
Ability to maintain focus, motivation and communication with others in a remote environment
Proactive self-starter; strong attention to detail; experience working in a busy hybrid/mostly remote work environment a plus
Solutions focused individual who is comfortable asking questions, searching for answers, and gaining clarity when needed
Passion for Facing History's mission
Can drive ideation and execution based on data and organizational priorities
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Strong analytic and systems thinking
Ability to coordinate and manage complex cross-functional projects with multiple competing priorities or perspectives
Ability to manage ambiguity, risk, and changing direction of projects and strategies
Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and management skills and high professional standards for work quality
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in the K-12 education sector
Experience working with national or international non-profit organizations
Bachelor's degree or higher

Final Interview
