    Default job background
    Description

Closing Date: July 5 (applications being reviewed on a rolling basis).

    Position: Full-time; Remote.

Reporting to the COO, the Community Manager is responsible for fostering engagement and programmatic management of Engineers Without Borders' (EWB) growing network of University, Professional and Corporate Chapters across Canada.

EWB aims to create systemic change through community-driven collaboration. We do this by mobilizing the engineering community and leveraging technological innovation to address global challenges in Canada and beyond. The Community Manager would be responsible for the continued engagement and management of EWB's established network of 30+ university chapters across Canada, made up of more than 1000 student leaders. This position would also work to broaden EWB's reach to encompass all engineers in Canada, regardless of their practice status or employment status (working or retired).

Responsibilities: Community Engagement & Management – University Chapters

    • Develop and implement strategies to enhance student engagement within EWB university Chapters and foster a sense of community.
    • Provide guidance and support to Chapter Leaders in designing and executing impactful projects and initiatives aligned with EWB's mission and values.
    • Facilitate knowledge-sharing and learning opportunities among university Chapters by organizing workshops, conferences, and online forums.
    • Collaborate with university faculty and administrators to explore opportunities for partnership and integration of EWB programs into academic curricula.
    • Coordinate engagement initiatives, including local, national, regional, and virtual events and activities that foster connection, knowledge-sharing, and growth within EWB's Community. Offer creative solutions such as platforms, tools, and training for engaging both online and in-person.

Community Growth & Engagement – Corporate Partners and Professional Chapters

    • Support establishing relationships with corporate partners and professional engineering associations to expand EWB's network and engage professionals in EWB's mission.
    • Develop and implement programming for engineers, practicing or not, working or retired, ensuring their skills and expertise are effectively utilized.
    • Collaborate with the Professional Chapter Leads to support the establishment and growth of Professional Chapters across Canada.

    Community Operations:

    • Streamline and automate Chapter operations, including monitoring and evaluation, branding, onboarding, Chapter websites, thematic alignment and reporting and access to other organizational programming and opportunities.
    • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date database of Chapter members and activities, as well as email lists.
    • Conduct regular evaluations and assessments of community programs, initiatives, and engagement strategies to identify areas for improvement and optimize impact.
    • Stay updated on best practices, trends, and emerging technologies related to community management and engagement.
    • Provide recommendations and contribute to the development of policies, guidelines, and procedures related to community management and stakeholder engagement.
    • Management of staff, interns and volunteers on the Community Team
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Resource Development:

    • Support the Resource Development Team to develop funding proposals, grant applications, and sponsorship packages targeted at supporting the community's activities.
    • Provide guidance and support to community members in implementing fundraising campaigns and initiatives, including event sponsorship and peer-to-peer giving.
    • Support community members in navigating the process of securing funding through university facilities and student unions.
    • Work closely with the COO and Finance team to monitor and manage the community's budget, ensuring effective allocation and utilization of funds.
    • Use impact evaluation data to contribute to donor reporting as required.

    Experience and Skills Required:

    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., community development, international development, STEM) or equivalent experience.
    • Previous experience in community management, program management, or a related role, with a demonstrated track record of successful community engagement and program implementation.
    • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to effectively lead and manage teams, including volunteers and distributed teams.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster relationships and engage with diverse stakeholders, including university students, professionals, corporate partners, and donors.
    • Proficiency in using collaboration tools, project management software, and online platforms to facilitate communication and engagement within the community.
    • Ability to think strategically and develop innovative solutions to engage and grow the community, both within the existing university student community and with new corporate and professional engineer stakeholders.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines.
    • Passion for social impact, international development, and commitment to EWB's mission and values.
    • Fluency in French would be an important asset
    • Must be based in Canada

    Compensation

Salary commensurate with experience and comparable to similar roles in the non-profit sector. All employees are provided with a comprehensive health/dental benefits package, Professional Development & Wellness allowance, Tech Allowance and 3 weeks of vacation per year.
