The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for a permanent full-time Coordinator, Building Compliance in the Municipal Assets section of the Parks, Fleet and Facilities division.

Job description


The Coordinator, Building Compliance, will coordinate building related projects which will include but not limited to fire safety compliance, asbestos management program compliance,
TSSA elevator safety compliance, legislated energy consumption reporting, energy efficiency projects co-ordination, building accessibility compliance and departmental safety compliance.

This position will also be responsible for identifying, initiating and coordinating through to completion yearly lifecycle and day-to-day building projects.

Essential responsibilities

Demonstrate Chatham-Kent's core values and competencies

Monitor the compliance of the Fire/ESA/
TSSA for municipal facility sites

Maintain statistical data on all compliance requirements

Prepare 'Requests for Proposals' and/or 'Tenders'

Provide facility safety and building compliance guidance, assistance and advice to all levels of Municipal Staff through developing, implementing, promoting and auditing safe facility work practices and programs

Recommend corrective measures, design changes, etc. and formulate methods to control hazards specific to work environment of each of the divisions to reduce injuries and costs

Interpret and communicate a range of organizational and regulatory policies for work performed within the Municipality

Provide input into long-term planning

Essential qualifications

College diploma or university degree (preferably in a facilities management or project management program), with six (6) months to two (2) years of related experience
Experience in engineering design and construction


Preferred experience working with:

Building codes
Fire codes

TSSA
Industrial hygiene
Asbestos and other designated substance management
Energy conservation
Accessibility compliance
Building safety compliance

Experience preparing request for proposals and/or tenders
Working knowledge of Microsoft Access (or other similar software programs)

Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) (or similar software programs)

Work environment/hours of work

This position works both indoors and outdoors

This position works weekday hours, occasional evenings and weekends, as well as on-call hours

Working Remotely


This position has been approved for remote working, at the discretion of the supervisor based on the Working Remotely Policy.

This position may be required to attend on-site meetings in order to complete essential responsibilities of the role.

As per the Working Remotely Policy, employees scheduled to work remotely on a certain day may occasionally be called to a municipal onsite work location on short notice.

Employees must remain flexible to accommodate municipal requirements and be prepared to be called in on short notice.

COVID-19 Vaccination

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent no longer requires a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. Although it is not mandatory to be vaccinated, it is highly encouraged.

Driver's licence/vehicle requirements


Because this position would be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's license with a reliable motor vehicle is necessary.

frequent standing inside, outside (inspecting/reviewing building compliance issues)

frequent fine finger dexterity (movement), pinching, mousing; constant gripping (reviewing tenders, policies, typing, etc.)


Climbing:
frequent climbing ladders, stairs (inspecting/reviewing building compliance issues)


Foot action:
constant one and two foot action (constant one and two foot action)
