    Position Description

    • Shkaabe Makwa at CAMH is the pioneering hospital-based Centre in Canada aimed at driving culturally-responsive systems initiatives to achieve health justice and wellness for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis through advancing research, workforce development, and innovative healing models that blend traditional knowledge and medical expertise.
    • The Senior Health Policy Analyst role, reporting to the Senior Manager of Strategic Initiatives at Shkaabe Makwa, focuses on leading policy development and analysis in cultural safety, reconciliation, and addressing anti-Indigenous racism within the healthcare sector.
    • Responsibilities include maintaining senior-level relationships with government agencies impacting the health care of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis, as well as staying updated on public policies affecting their health and well-being.
    • The Senior Health Policy Analyst collaborates closely with CAMH's senior leadership to coordinate experts, develop policies, and integrate external expertise to serve Shkaabe Makwa and CAMH.
    • This position particularly supports the review of existing CAMH policies with a focus on First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultural safety, anti-Indigenous racism, and reconciliation principles within Clinical Care, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, and Operations Policy Committees.
    • Operational activities involve timely review and revision of policies and procedures, consultation with key stakeholders, designing tools for policy reviews, and leading policy development to guide advocacy for Shkaabe Makwa.
    • Qualifications: The ideal candidate must be First Nations, Inuit, or Métis with a Master's degree in health, public policy, social services, community development, planning, or public health, and at least five years of relevant experience. Knowledge of the traditions, cultures, and values of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis is essential, along with expertise in trauma, healing practices, policy analysis, training facilitation, and establishing partnerships with Indigenous-focused organizations.
    • Experience in policy analysis, development, and promotion of cultural safety and wellness for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis is key, along with the ability to work with diverse partners and travel within Ontario, including remote First Nations.
