    Job Description:

    Associate Vice President Profile:

    Associate Vice Presidents (AVPs) at TD Bank Group contribute to the overall reputation of TD. As executives, AVPs help to set the ethical, organizational and performance standard for the teams they lead and exemplify how an effective performance and development culture functions day to day. An AVP is expected to guide his/her team, collaborating as appropriate with TD partners, to deliver superior results in both the short and long term.

    Department / Position Overview:

    The AVP, Private Banking Credit Solutions is responsible for the business development and credit and operational risk oversight of the PB Credit Solutions Group (CSG). This team manages complex credit products and services provided to HNW and UHNW personal clients within Private Banking and other areas of TD including Commercial Banking and TD Securities. The CSG group consists of credit professionals who combine their in-depth knowledge and extensive deal structuring experience to offer a full suite of customized credit and cash management solutions to meet the complex needs of HNW/UHNW clients.

    The position reports to the Vice President & Head of Private Banking and works closely with PWM Region Heads, Branch Managers, PIA and PIC PMs, PB Market Managers, Private Bankers, Commercial Unit Leaders, Wealth and Retail Risk Management, Wealth and Retail Governance and Control partners on a frequent basis. This leadership position is accountable for enabling sustainable credit product growth within TD's Risk Appetite in addition to delivering a superior client and partner experience on complex credit structures.

    CSG has two mandates:

    • Business Development and Risk Management of complex credit structures on personal HNW and UHNW clients. This is achieved via joint client relationship management with PWM partners in PB, PIA and PIC. CSG manages risk by underwriting new credit deals and completing regular risk reviews on existing credit deals and working with partners in Wealth Credit Risk to manage risk. The team also educates and drives awareness of complex credit products to the partners and requires highly skilled individuals who understand bespoke loan structuring, financial statement analysis and possess exceptional stakeholder management skills.
    • Underwriting, oversight and management of Private Banking credit products in RESL, Personal Lending and Credit Cards via Regional Credit Managers (RCMs) and Credit Analysts (CAs) located in PWM markets and PB Direct across the country. This group works closely with Retail Risk Management to help structure credit deals, provides coaching on credit submissions and oversees compliance requirements on credit processes and policies.

    Job Accountabilities

    General accountabilities of this role include but are not limited to the following:

    • Lead strategic evolution of centre of excellence operating model to support business strategy and growth aspirations
    • Lead team focused on customized personal credit underwriting (new applications and annual reviews) capabilities
    • Partner with Private Banking National Office (PBNO) and other TD partners on product strategy to ensure we have a dynamic suite of credit products to serve the needs of HNW/UHNW clients and tools necessary to adapt and comply with the changing business and regulatory environments.
    • Develop business strategy that balances business objectives with risk management strategies. Identify gaps in product suite, policy and develop strategies to address or mitigate these weaknesses.
    • Partner with Private Bankers, PIA and PIC Advisors and liaise with Risk Management partners through the credit decision-making process.
    • Responsible for contributing to the quality and the profitable growth of the Private Banking customized credit portfolio through high quality credit solutions-related activities for clients - includes risk analysis, deal structuring, pricing, negotiation and credit presentations for highly complex deals and credit applications.
    • Manage and improve the ongoing quality and compliance of the credit portfolio including the new deal and annual review process
    • Ensure all Monitoring and Control systems are in place and adhered to based on credit risk policy and Bank operating policies and procedures.
    • Review and innovate processes, systems and procedures to improve outcomes and growth within the business.
    • Ensure staff understand and comply with Bank and Industry Codes of Conduct.
    • Maintain a high level of professionalism and contributes to a work environment that facilitates job satisfaction, personal development, and opportunities for advancement.

    Job Requirements

    • University degree in business, accounting or a related discipline required
    • Previous experience in Business Banking and/or TD Securities Relationship Management, Business Development and Commercial Credit would be an asset.
    • 10 +years of specialized credit experience dealing with HNW clients and sophisticated financing requirements
    • In-depth knowledge of the Bank's Risk Appetite, lending policies, practices and procedures. Strong knowledge and understanding of financial statement analysis and accounting principles. Understanding of the impact of changing economic and market conditions on credit risk.
    • Proven ability to work with various partners and utilize relationship management skills to meet client needs and expectations. Stands up for their own convictions, even when viewed as unpopular.
    • Proven ability to align teams to a common goal and purpose by driving awareness, increasing knowledge and being seen as a subject matter expert to achieve success.
    • An inclusive leader with demonstrated experience leading high performing individuals and materially raises the performance of the team through ongoing coaching and development.
