LOCATION:
Merritt, BC


STATUS:
Permanent Full-Time


COMPENSATION:
$ $32.51 per hour (Grid 12 as per collective agreement)


HOURS of WORK: 37.5 hours per week. Most work is done between 8:30 am-6:00 pm Monday to Friday. May require flexible availability including evenings and weekends based on client needs.


ABOUT the JOB:

The Family Support Worker supports families, youth, and children within multiple program settings based on the employee's skill set, fit, and workloads


Programs include:

  • Family Services
  • Supervised and Supported Visitation
  • Children and Youth With Support Needs
  • Youth Justice
  • Teen Center
Overall responsibilities of the Family Support Worker include but are not limited to:

  • Provides service to family members in a variety of settings teaching parenting, communication, problem-solving, and life skills to individuals, families, and/or groups.
  • Advocates for the rights of individuals and families.
  • Assesses individual and family functioning and identifies individual/family strengths, needs, and patterns of interaction that form the basis of service goals and intervention strategies.
  • Cocreates realistic goals, intervention strategies, and outcomes with the individual, family, and MCFD and/or relevant stakeholders.
  • Liaises and consults with relevant stakeholders to ensure that client goals are achieved.
  • Monitors and evaluates client progress toward meeting desired goals.
  • Provides followup support to individuals and families, including referrals to other services.
  • Facilitates the development of formal and informal resource networks with the individual/family and provides information on crisis and emergency services.
  • Responds to crisis situations promptly, assesses levels of risk, and assists individuals/families in stabilization.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:


  • Diploma in Human or Social Service or other related field
  • A degree is an asset.
  • 1year recent relevant experience working with families, youth, and children facing multiple barriers.
  • Or a combination of education, training, and experience.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, and ABILITIES:


Demonstrated knowledge and strong abilities to:

  • Build healthy, trusting relationships with all involved parties, including the families, children, youth, colleagues, supervisors, community professionals, care teams, and family members
  • Learn and implement current researchbased theories, methods, and interventions related to individuals/families dealing with issues of violence, addictions, and mental health challenges
  • Conduct effective and engaging group facilitations
  • Work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds with persistent challenging behaviours.
  • Provide life skills support and development
  • Teach coping techniques, emotional regulation, and adaptive behaviour
  • Recognize and deal effectively with aggressive behaviours and crisis situations using appropriate interventions
  • Liaise and communicate between clients and members of their care team
  • Advocate for the best interests of the individuals
  • Manage conflict effectively
  • Provide clear and accurate written documentation
  • Work effectively independently and as a strong member of a team
  • Exhibit sensitivity and inclusion towards a variety of cultural, religious, economic, and social backgrounds, beliefs, values, and opinions
  • Effectively use Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office Programs
  • Learn and use new technological tools and programs as necessary
  • Protect the confidentiality of all agency, staff, and client information

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Valid Class 5 Driver's license and safe driving record
  • Own vehicle with Business Use and thirdparty liability insurance of $5 million (reimbursement is provided).
  • Ability to travel to surrounding areas identified within our contracts
  • This job requires union membership.
