PROGRAM: 611 Youth Living Program


LOCATION:
Kamloops, BC


STATUS:
Permanent Full-Time


COMPENSATION:
$ $30.69 per hour (Grid 11 as per collective agreement)


VACANCIES:

1. 40 hours per week, Mon-Fri, 3:30 PM - 11:30 PM
2. 40 hours per week, Mon-Fri, 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM


ABOUT THE JOB:


The Child and Youth Care Worker works with a young female individual in a highly structured and personalized program within a home environment.

They develop and maintain a safe learning environment based on the strengths, abilities, and needs of the youth to enhance her level of independence and quality of life.

The Care Worker builds strong relationships with the youth to support her in personal development and responds effectively to a variety of challenging situations and behaviors with appropriate interventions.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing opportunities for the youth to acquire and maintain life skills necessary for independent living
  • Providing guidance in behavior management and educating on adapting behavior and coping techniques
  • Deescalating crisis situations using appropriate interventions
  • Attending case management meetings
  • Providing communication and support to family members, community professionals, and the care team
  • Meal planning and preparation
  • Maintaining the home including housekeeping, laundry, yard work, etc.
  • Completing documentation and reporting
  • Participating in clientfocused recreational and other activities

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:


  • Diploma in Human or Social Service or other related field
  • Experience working with a care team to support youth with diverse needs.
  • Or a combination of education, training and experience.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, and ABILITIES:


Demonstrated knowledge and strong abilities to:

  • Be physically active and involved in supporting the child/youth in various client-focused activities, such as biking, swimming, walking, hiking, etc.
  • Build healthy, trusting relationships with all involved parties, including the youth, colleagues, supervisors, community professionals, care teams, and family members
  • Support and interact effectively with the children/youth who have experienced trauma
  • Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours, crisis situations, and aggression
  • Provide life skills support and development, interventions, and guidance to youth
  • Develop and implement clientfocused schedules, plans, and goalsetting methods
  • Work effectively independently and as a strong contributing member of a team
  • Take initiative, notice what needs to be done in the program, and follow through
  • Manage conflict effectively
  • Provide clear and accurate written documentation
  • Run and maintain a home, including shopping, cleaning, yard work, cooking, budgeting, and meal planning.
  • Cook healthy, nutritional meals
  • Assess the personal safety of staff and client(s) and respond appropriately to crisis situations
  • Provide medication administration as per ICS policy and procedures

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Valid Class 5 Driver's license and safe driving record
  • Access to reliable transportation to report to the scheduled shifts on time. Access to a vehicle is an asset.
  • Complete set of Covid19 vaccinations (minimum two doses)
  • Physical abilities to provide individuals with recreational activities indoors and outdoors.
  • This job requires union membership.
