THE WAR NOBODY WINS

My sister the queen of the Canadian gypsies, came back from about 5 weeks on the road in Central Ontario. At dinner tonight we talked about a lot of things and she told me the story of a man she met on a boat cruise up in Georgian Bay. He was 82 and a Republican. One of the things he said to her really stuck in her head. They were talking about how he gets his news and he told her that he always has to watch both Fox News and CNBC, because both of them were just lying, and he figured that the truth was somewhere in the middle and it was up to him to figure it out. And he's probably right. 
But when I think about all the Americans who simply choose one or the other and live and die by that choice, I can see why that country is in such a mess right now. Both sides fervently believe they are right, but more importantly, both sides think the other side is evil and out to destroy the country. 
My sister's conclusion was to stop thinking about America altogether, because all that it will do is just drive you crazy.
Then tonight, just a few minutes ago in fact, I saw this, and it really drove home the great hulking wall that divides that country. It does no good to mention that this is not just lunacy, but absolutely inhuman. The American people, God bless them, have been herded into camps, left and right and, make no mistake about it, they are at war with each other. The victims, are all like this doctor (below) who just wanted to do the right thing, and a ten year old girl whose life will never be the same again, because of some asshole.
I'm not sure what the root cause of all this insanity could be. And the more it confuses me, the less I find myself caring. It feels like that country is suffering from a real clash of cultures, which is really nothing more than a war with no winners.
