Be Whole Life - Not the Hole

Be Whole Life - Not the Hole

e3738125.pngIs there a leadership gap that results if one hires an Obama or if one hires a Trump? Is there a difference if Google hired Eric Schmidt or if it hired Eric Clapton? Does the leader you have create a different way forward or is who leads your ship just blind luck and manifest destiny?

Sometimes we have a different view of life because we are a different kind of leader and we are not the one's hired by a nation, or by Google or even by the local entrepreneur down the road. That should not prevent us contemplate the path that makes sense to us and in so contemplating take us off the long-term, just because the short-term pressure weighs heavier.

All I can say here is that in this personal learning journey, what is I believe in and why that belief cannot be traded in for a lesser view of the future - or else I lower the trajectory of my life. I believe firmly in the LIFE PATH and not the CAREER PATH.

Those that believe in the career path, that is their choice and they are branded by that choice and they deserve to live a branded life. What if the life path I leads me to a frugal existence? What if the life path I lead leads me to the Promised Land? Either way it is my life path. I alone have the right to live my life along a life path rather than plug myself into a career ideology.

The branded life is split into three, the whole life is ONE. There is a sacred space in the making whenever three becomes one or at least it is sacred as I choose it to be. What others consider sacred is their business, their life. I don't speak on behalf of any organization or any life here, for I have fundamentally made it clear that the personal learning journey I pursue here is mine and mine alone.

I see no reason to be a clone of someone else. I see no reason to be someone elses crony if they for a short-while have different expectations shaped more so by short-term realities. I can only live in learning as a long-term reality because the Life Path is long-term. We have been conditioned from the moment we enter education to expect a social income not a life outcome.

The certified I thought are those in sanitariums, but our asylum is found in our education system, or work systems and our retirement systems. Like everyone else I can be given a birth certificate, certified at birth - educational certificates, certified at school - employment certificates - certified as employees, a Life-time achievement certificate - certified as a career and then the one certificate we never get to receive, a death certificate - certified as certified.

If I see this, it is because I see this and if I write this, it is because it is the thinking that emanates at this given minute in my mind. I should not engage in a stupid practice of comparison shopping because comparison limits us - we begin searching for the ideal, as if we are immortal. We are not. We are mortal. My learning journey is cognoscente of this mortality.

My favourite movie is "Good Will Hunting" and there are many great scenes in it where Will Hunting says "Maybe I don't want to spend the rest of my fuckin' life sittin' around explaining shit to people" It is the lines we remember in movies that inform us individually of our affinity. That kind of sentiment is central to my own personal learning journey. I view it more like Star Trek and the Captains Log - we never ask why Captain Kirk is keeping that log other than it is used in the scripting of the screenplay - when it comes to our own life, we have one screenplay that is not written but lived every clicking second that we have and expect to have ahead.

The reality of Good Will Hunting is that we are drawn to it because it is a movie about a genius lost in the system and it underpins a story of someone abused in that system but who has a gift or a key to make good in life by our own standard and measure of success. So it is we end up seeing a piece of ourselves in whatever we personally identify with. At that point we just need to recognize the attraction is what is meaningful and what is meaningless and all of that is held together by a common fear, which is that we matter, our life matters or making life matter.

Once I am at peace with the societal constructs that we fit into and then play a part in, then there is opportunity for learning. Those who think learning is a joy ride are thinking of entertainment. If we don't feel the emotional or psychological burn of our learning then it is something else we are doing. The same goes with reflection, we either spin our wheels and reflect in an utterly empty manner, going around and around in circles - who we feel the transformation and when we look back, we can jot down the transition points of change. There is both pain and pleasure in that but the compass point is doing what is right by our own heart.

That is why I like Mihaly's evidence based work on "Flow" - why it was the first book I ever read cover to cover on multiple occasions. To do something for the curiosity of engaging it. 80% of whatever I have written online is no longer there, as sites closed down so went the content. That does not mean I have lost 80% of my life! This is what I have been engaging for a long time and each time I either regress or take two steps forward - a life journey is like that. On the way I have written in other names like "Mark Zorro" - and the bits that remain - well, that is a picture of my brain when it was written. It is a useful X-ray of life then and life now.

Between those words and these words something hopefully changed, whether this is a whole life is yet to be realized, but the moment I get told "successful personal branding" - that is a knife cutting me into three ways - when the joy of learning is to get to ONE, even if talked nearly a decade ago about getting to ZERO.

There is a plethora of streams of consciousness that emanate from one source, the slogan "successful personal branding". The end form is varied but they have been triggered by a common point that works at so many different fundamental levels, and at all of these levels there is an underlying sense of underwhelm and incredulity - which connects present (how it effects learning journey), past (what Mark Zorro was about) and future (engaging the mediocrity that reveals itself as strategic nous, direction and capability).

Dear Gert [ Gert Scholtz ] - the creation of Mark Zorro was directly a statement at the time when I was a member of Fast Company's "Company of Friends" to their promotion of "A Brand Called You" At the time I was a part of a rebel group that had an outpouring against the traditional world of marketing and along came Tom Peters telling us that we can sell ourselves like bars of soap. At that point I created Mark Zorro - and the best place to read about that is on 2008 bio I wrote 10 years later at Fast Company FC Bio of Mark Zorro https://www.fastcompany.com/786242/fc-bio I invite Ali Anani also to read my "Mark Zorro" bio at FC (Fast Company) that I have linked above. Other background info about "Mark Zorro" is in my summary at a blogspot account I created called "ONE" back in 2003 http://bit.ly/2kaNpx2 Interestingly, the actual blog was a series of one-liner's, which occasionally also included links and the person who created blogspot Ev Williams went on three years later to create a SMS related site that today is called Twitter and then his latest online property called Medium. Here is the funniest part in this, I received email from people telling me that ONE was not the way to write a blog - as I have always said "he who laughs last, laughs longest !!!" : The 2004 Entries for the ONE blog are here : http://bit.ly/2kPMPBQ

Dear Robert, the United States elects what $7.8 billion dollars can buy and clearly it needs to look at return on investment because that return is absolutely horrendous and that is without touching on the subject of campaign finance reform. In the case of Donald Trump I am interested in him as a personal brand - and if that is the gift the world of personal branding has given us, we need to spend more time investing ourselves in "Appreciation" a.k.a. Appreciation for A-Players and Personal Branding for B-Players. Steve Jobs had a name for B-Players - he called them a part of Bozo Leadership. http://www.forbes.com/sites/ericjackson/2012/01/31/why-every-company-needs-a-no-bozo-policy/#b7121ff5f89a I have no idea of what No-Bozo Policy involves but Steve Jobs left that as a part of his legacy and I do hope that Javier 🐝 beBee do read the second half of the Forbes article. Steve Jobs may have been ruthless but I am sure if we gave him $7.8 billion dollars to transform the world of politics - i-Politics would be a different ball-game. Watch out for the bozo's - $7.8 billion later, the US electorate got sold by a personal brand. Put that in a "successful personal branding" testimonial.

Good Will Hunting has so many good scenes, you will absolutely enjoy it at many levels. As for personal branding, when it is done well it can be done very well - but it is meaningless to say that being at beBee infers we have a successful personal brand. Any brand at any level has to be worked at and due thought needs to be given to the process. I want to feel like I am at a place which defines the work is looked at in the 21st Century, instead it is a rehashed concept from the end of the 20th Century - when what I find here is so much more than a mass marketing gimmick.

Dear Pamela [ Pamela 🐝 Williams ] I embrace the idea of branding when it is done well, then there are people whose name is their selling point so they need personal brands - but at the point of mass personal brands so much of them are not successful and a lot are really badly presented, and knowing that brand is a promise - to promise "successful personal branding" firstly is dubious and secondly it is limiting - because people today want to know the end-to-end service - not a niche of a service. Unless the service includes a complete personal branding package - it is an amateur proposition and not a professional service offering. If this is the direction we are moving towards, it does alienate people like me who did not sign up for that and that means it is an imposition - rather than an invitation. Finally at the level of mass marketing it brings the idea of branding right back to the herd - the cattle reference branding originated from. If that isn't all,we now have a celebrity personal brand elected as President of the United States and his story now accompanies a maverick (John McCain) which is another thing associated cattle (maverick is someone who does not brand his cattle), so to be associated with all this in these coming years - for is not a good idea. I want to be a part of something great rather than so shop.

Max [ ] the way I look at it is that there is ONE in 21 - so we are here now in the 21st Century, time to live it.
