CPC Sports Snorts: Hooray for Milos Raonic…Best Loss So Far
I have been a sports fan for a long time. My sister who is also a sports fan refers to pro sports as the ultimate reality show and I can’t disagree. One of the sports that I don’t follow as closely as others is tennis. This weekend one of the four tennis majors was decided with America’s Serena Williams winning the woman’s title and Scotland’s Andy Murray (no relation, but we euphemistically refer to him as cousin Andy) won the men’s title.
But even more significant than both of those amazing wins, for me as a Canadian at least was the performance of Andy Murray’s opponent, Canada’s Milos Raonic.
Milos started as a teenager several years ago and has slowly and sort of steadily worked his way up the pro tennis food chain. This Wimbledon final is as far as he has come. But anyone who knows anything about tennis will tell you that he’s being groomed for bigger things.
I know this because just a few weeks ago tennis great John McEnroe, who really is the voice of pro tennis on ESPN, has joined Milos’ coaching staff.
McEnroe was a bad boy in tennis, but there are very few humans walking the earth who know the intricacies of the game better than he does. So for him to show this much interest in Milos, the game is definitely afoot to make this kid Number One.
And the time is right. Milos beat Roger Federer to get there. And that is significant, because carving out a spot in that top 4 is what it’s all about. Not just financially, but from the point of view of always being in hunt.
I know from my experience with golf in my mis-spent youth, that a lot of the quality of your game depends on who you are playing against.
So if Milos can keep his head straight and keep working to improve his game, then Canadians will have yet another major dude in another pro sport.
And trust me when I tell you, this country loves to have Canadians to cheer for.All my profile and contact information can be accessed here

Sorry...not sure that classifies as a comment. Not sure what it does because it's not even a link...of course if it were, it might classify as an abuse. So my advice is be careful.
