Damián Ortega

If it was purely based on the thinker behind the artist Damián Ortega is, I would place him in my White Hive, but because his thinking effects so many perspectives about culture and are highly nuanced observations, he deserves to be viewed as a cultural icon.  Not as idolatry but as a thinker and an artist who tests our own individual cultural perspective.

There are various pieces of work which capture my attention, from the way he takes apart a VW Beetle making what would normally be seen as a technical engineering drawing into art, or how we depicts the solar system with ordinary everyday items or the submarine made of salt that leaks salt and thus is destroying the exhibit as it is making it. 

Then there is his performance art and his turning food into artistic objectives and so that is making art which has no permanence but is totally in the moment.
