Physical Intelligence - Day 35

I am completely at a loss to know which side of the food wars represents science that is free of special interest and science that is funded by special interest to sell us food. At the same time there are people who we consider to be our champions and bringing us the "truth", but as I research them, I am just as skeptical to what amounts a lifestyle choice based on belief.
In the last week I have used terms like "Wheat Belly" as if this is an ascertained truth. There are also stories about the "truth of sugar", and both of these claims were examined by The Fifth State which tries to question claims. The problem with the "The War on Wheat" feature is that Wheat is absolutely important to the Canadian farmer and CBC is Canada Broadcast Corporation, so there is a conflict there that could be perceived as propaganda for the Canadian government. Equally it might be a very independent led story.

It isn't even the invisible hand that informed dietary guidelines, it is the obvious hand. We don't even have to be a conspiracy theorist to know how Big Food wields its power. It is bad enough that corporates got the law changed to recognize corporations as "people" http://www.huffingtonpost.com/adam-winkler/corporations-are-people-a_b_5543833.html Big Food has its own power based on Food Libel Laws http://www.motherjones.com/politics/1998/02/food-fights This speaks to the world we live in. That is why I have problems with the word consumer when as a consumer we are the one's being consumed. I also have a problem with personal brand, because it is the other side of the coin to the idea that corporations are people. So we get it both ways, from the corporations and from the personal brands who sell us food advice. I just take a step back and breath, otherwise I am making personal decisions on science I barely understand. The only devices left is to figure out at a personal level what it is that makes sense at the personal level - and sidestep away from the politics.
