Stuck in a Rut?
Have you ever been in a rut, doing the same thing day after day? Sometimes, it feels as if, life is like reading a book. Days, weeks, even years just repeat themselves... until you turn the page.
A novel concept that, turn the page of your story. Start to live the next adventure or chapter. Why do so many of us find it hard to turn the page, to discover what is next, I wonder?
Time is a one-way journey, I cannot go back, I can only move forward and live in the present, and the days they keep counting down.
One day will be the last, and if I have become stuck in a rut, afraid to take on the next adventure life can get boring and time can appear to slow down.
Turning the page opens up new horizons, keeps our mind active and keeps time from slowing down.
We are the authors of our own stories, we write the words and create the world we live in, so don't be afraid to turn the page and start on the next greatest adventure.
Maybe some people do not turn the page because they have writer’s block and do not know how to overcome the inertia that holds them steady in the river of life. Have you ever been in the water when you get tired and want to stop swimming? I have and when that happens, I tread water. I stay where I am, I stay afloat but I do not progress. Inertia and writer's block are like treading water in the river of life, we stay alive, but we do not progress. How do we move forward? My answer is by starting to do.
When I have writer's block, I just sit down and start a free-flowing conversation with the page, I ramble until I start to see the shape of what my thoughts are trying to get out. Then I put form to the structure, and I progress.
When I am treading water I put my head under and put my arm over my head and kick out with my feet and I start to move, slowly at first and then I pick up speed.
When I am frozen in time because I don’t know what the next steps should be I take baby steps until I have the courage to take larger and faster steps.
Life is an adventure and we only have one direction to go, so never stop until you are forced to stop.

I would have said what most of us have done during lockdown is change our routines, and by definition tried something new. Though it might be seen as swapping one rut for another. Now restrictions are being lifted with have the chance of either starting new routines or slipping back into the former rut.
