The Right Chemistry

Success in my book is a rather simple state, to be blessed with having people around who it is cool to be around and for me Phil Collins laid down the marker as to how best to appreciate success with his song "Another Day in Paradise".
That success contains the possibility of failure makes it interesting. The story of the man who could turn everything to gold underlines the chemistry in the relationship we juggle each day. In July the excellent Flynn hands off her term as Club President to the equally excellent Enis.
For me my choice of using Antimony and Thulium as a short-form for Sheridan Bruins Toastmasters isn't the reason I chose this to be our clubs Facebook avatars for the two pages that now exist. It is that I originally saw the Facebook page of Enis and was fascinated by the blue graphic he used for Iron, Lithium, Sodium.
Turns out that this is a reference to the series "Breaking Bad". A series that my own kids were so into that it actually made me turn off it, and they were manic about this show. Then again they were manic about Game of Thrones and those Zombie series.
For me having students like Enis, Flynn, Daniel and et al around is the opportunity to extend the playground of the mind. In that playground also exists a microcosm of all the relationships one can find within a urban area - and this fractal view of college is what interests me.
Success activates chemistry within us and this chemistry changes how we approach, relate and view success. At a certain point it becomes defined as objects that we accumulate and the more that happens the more material minded our own view of success is. It is at this point genuine happiness turns into a must have happiness.
We hunger most for the things we do not have. Starved of something we lose the very message that Phil Collins so wisely wove in his song and at this point we go comparison shopping and place success in our shopping cart. This leads to the totally wrong chemistry.
The right chemistry flows within us, it always has and for me a huge part of success is two fold, counting our blessings and appreciating things for the soul of appreciation.
As a new executive team comes together in July, it will be interesting to see how things unfold, and success for me is being happy to be a part of this team, as much as I am happy to be with this team at beBee also. My appreciation moving forward is feeling the right chemistry within and then see what it will create. If we are confused about success, Phil Collins will remind us.
