Interior Community Services is currently looking to hire casual Community Support Workers to work in our Community Inclusion and Day programs in
Merritt, BC.

The Community Support Worker role provides individual one on one and group support to clients with diverse abilities in community inclusion, accessing community resources, emotional support and life skills development


Responsibilities may include:

  • Providing support in daily life skills including physical, vocational, recreational, social and emotional development
  • Assisting clients to integrate in the community and to achieve the greatest degree of independence and quality of life possible
  • Assisting clients with activities, shopping, errands, household cleanliness and food preparation
  • Performing personal/hygiene care
  • Transporting participants
  • Supporting clients to participate in activities that fit their interest and abilities.
  • Supporting clients to set and work towards goals.

Required Qualifications:

-
Community Support Worker Certificate or
Human Service Diploma and a recent related experience supporting individuals with diverse abilities and challenging behaviours. Or a combination of training, education and experience.

  • A safe drivers abstract, own reliable transportation and valid Class 5 driver's license is required. Must be able to obtain Business Use/5 million 3rd party liability insurance. Ability to obtain a Class 4 license may be required.

Proof of Covid Vaccination is required:

  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (MANDT), safeTALK, Safe Food Handling, and Medication Management training will be provided.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to interact effectively and support individuals with physical and developmental disabilities
  • Strong experience providing life skills support and development
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills and documentation
  • Strong ability to recognize, analyze and deal effectively with aggressive behaviours and crisis situations using appropriate interventions
  • Strong conflict management and time management skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other professionals, coworkers and supervisors
  • Strong ability to problem solve, maintain professional boundaries and make ethical decisions
  • Ability and comfort in providing personal care
  • Ability to work independently to carry out program requirements and client's care plans
  • Knowledge of Medication administration, Seizure management, FASD and Autism is an asset

OTHER:

This is a casual position in which flexible availability is required.

Casuals must provide
a minimum of 12 days of availability per month.
Casuals are booked in advance to cover for vacation, stat days and planned absences of regular staff and are on-call to cover sick days.

Successful applicants must be able to provide a safe driver's abstract and satisfactory criminal record checks (both RCMP and BC Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Vulnerable sector).


SALARY:

Wages are set by the collective agreement.

Pay rate differs starts at
$21.63/hrSuccessful applicants must be able to provide a satisfactory supervisory references and criminal record checks (both RCMP and BC Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General).
