    Director of Development - Régina, SK, Canada - University of Saskatchewan

    Primary Purpose: The Director of Development is responsible for developing major gift fundraising plans, primarily in Regina and the surrounding region, to significantly increase and diversify revenue for the University of Saskatchewan. The Director will provide high-level expertise, direction and facilitation in the development, and implementation of fundraising and alumni strategies designed to maximize long term support for, and engagement with, the university.

    Nature of Work: Under the strategic direction of the Associate Vice-President, Development, working in collaboration with multiple team members, the Director will drive the development of cultivation/solicitation fundraising plans and projects, leading priority initiatives that support major gifts, designed to lift the profile of the University of Saskatchewan as a major destination for alumni and philanthropic engagement.

    This position not only engages donors and alumni in key programs and initiatives, articulating the opportunities and impact of financial investments, but also may support specific fundraising programs and engagement initiatives. The incumbent is required to garner an in-depth understanding of the Comprehensive Campaign initiatives with the mandate to build relationships that support philanthropy while also creating opportunities for alumni engagement. The Director will build and manage alumni relationships while working closely with development professionals to identify donor prospects.

    The work requires a proactive approach in a complex environment and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences by a variety of methods and communication mediums. Establishing and maintaining positive relationships and modeling best practices is essential to success. This position makes discretionary decisions and uses excellent judgment to determine appropriate procedures in alignment with legislative requirements and institutional policies. Accuracy and attention to detail is essential to ensure information provided to others is correct. The environment is dynamic and fast-paced.

    Accountabilities:

    • Identify, engage, cultivate, solicitate and steward gifts from donors and prospects in support of institutional priorities in the Regina and Southern Saskatchewan area.
    • Oversee the production of tailored principal and major gift proposals and case statements.
    • Provide strategic fundraising expertise for fundraising initiatives identified by senior leadership. This includes providing high-level support for programs and projects requiring major gift support.
    • Actively manage a portfolio of current and prospective major donors with a focus on those who have the ability to make significant major gifts to support institutional priorities and campaign goals.
    • Strengthen long-term relationships with the university's major donors by ensuring they are stewarded and recognized in ways that are meaningful to them and that are in alignment with institutional recognition guidelines.
    • Work collaboratively with college advancement colleagues and appropriate members of the University of Relations team to ensure all aspects of college and university advancement activity are closely aligned with relevant institutional policies and guidelines.
    • Establish, enhance and promote the university as a leader in donor-centered development.
    • Through collaboration and meaningfully engagement, actively contribute to creating a university environment that is engaged with and inspired by the philanthropic work undertaken by University Relations.
    • Ensure fundraising activity targets are met and where possible exceeded.
    • Work collaboratively with the alumni relations team to identify alumni ambassadors, groups and events to support alumni engagement activities.
    • Develop, in collaborations with the alumni relations team, annual goals and objectives and evaluate efforts in support of alumni relations priorities.
    • Provide expertise and guidance on alumni engagement principles and practices to support colleagues and partners across campus in achieving their alumni engagement goals in alignment with the priorities of the alumni relations office.
    • Ensure volunteer opportunities are incorporated in alumni engagement programs and activities and always uphold an exemplary level of volunteer stewardship.

    Education: Undergraduate degree required; advanced degree strongly preferred. Professional accreditation as a CFRE is preferred.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 5 years' demonstrated experience in fundraising or related discipline preferably within a higher education or comparably complex environment.
    • Previous experience in alumni relations and events management would be an asset.
    • Previous experience working with volunteers and an interest in community/stakeholder engagement is preferred.
    • Success in building and managing collaborative relationships and managing multiple projects.
    • Ability to compose professional level correspondence and meet deadlines with excellent proofreading skills and command of language, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
    • High attention to detail, prioritization of work and organizational skills required.
    • High competence in computer programs, web-based content management systems and applications, and digital/social media platforms. Knowledge of BBCRM – Engage CRM is highly desirable.
    • Knowledge of the University of Saskatchewan's culture, issues, goals, and stakeholders is an asset.
    • Enthusiasm for the mission of public universities and resonance with the University of Saskatchewan's mission, vision, and values.
    • Proven success in building productive, long-term relationships with senior university and campus administrators, faculty, staff, donors, alumni, and other external stakeholders.
