Experience
In 1999, I started the "Feed A Student For A Day" campaign at Camosun College to raise awareness about hungry students. The initiative received formal endorsements from 19 campus groups, and a lasagna dinner was organized. Over 100 people attended the event, and it became an annual tradition in early March. The campaign aimed to address food insecurity among students when their funds from student loans ran out.
During 1993-1994, I organized 4 festivals in Prince George, BC and continued as a community organizer for the Multicultural Heritage Society. Each festival drew over 10,000 attendees, cultural groups, and volunteers. I handled budgets, contracts, publicity, and city interactions. I raised funds for the Canada Day fireworks and implemented initiatives promoting multiculturalism and resolving cultural disputes.
In 2002, I participated in the University of Liverpool's distance MBA program as part of an intensive course on Organizational Context Analysis which was delivered through an experimental online interface. The course, which was aimed at business managers, included case studies and assignments applying analytical methods to an 18-part business model.
While attending the University of Alberta, I organized comedy shows to raise funds for addressing adult illiteracy in Canada. With connections in the local theatre community, I successfully produced two sold-out performances featuring a local comedy troupe, Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie. The shows raised over $4000, which was donated to a literacy charity.
While at UVic, I analyzed climate change denial and activism. For example, I critiqued the divestment movement and presented on its successes and failures. I also conducted a survey that revealed a widespread cognitive disconnection between economics and the environment. in 2016, Dr. Robert Gifford invited me to take his graduate seminar, Environmental Psychology 531, in which I earned an A.
