About Marco Antonio Tello Palencia:

MSc in Bioinformatics at UBC.
I'm interested in the application of machine learning to improve the analysis of biological datasets. I have been performing bioinformatic analyses for over 6 years in academic settings.
I am passionate about sharing my knowledge with peers and contributing to research projects.

Experience

BIOINFORMATICS EXPERIENCE:

RESEARCH ASSISTANT KORTHAUER LAB, UBC
Jan 2020 – Dec 2023

Master's thesis research focused on the integration of transcriptomics and
methylome profiles using supervised learning to explain expression variability
across healthy mammary epithelium. During this project, I learned to develop
complex bioinformatic pipelines tailored to optimize the biological signal in
each dataset. During this project, it was of particular interest to interpret
supervised learning models to derive biological insights when trained on
multi-omics data.

BIOINFORMATICIAN STEFANSKA LAB, UBC
Jun 2021 – Aug 2021

Led a project to reanalyze transcriptomic data from rat blood after different
diet exposures. Prior bioinformatic analyses pointed to no transcriptomic
differences, however, I was able to identify ~60 genes with differential
expression between two conditions. The results obtained motivated the preparation
of a manuscript, which is planned to be submitted in the upcoming month.

BIOINFORMATICIAN DEPLANCKE LAB, EPFL
Jan 2019 – Aug 2019

Analysis of ChIP-seq and genotyping data to identify epigenetic changes during
human adipocyte differentiation. For this project, I participated in quality
control and preprocessing of sequencing data. Once raw data was processed,
I performed quantitative trait loci (QTL) analyses.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT FREYRE LAB, UNAM
Jan 2020 – Dec 2023

Bachelor's thesis research focused on the inference of gene regulatory networks
for Neurospora crassa and Saccharomyces cerevisiae by using public transcriptomic
profiles and integrating predictions from multiple network inference models.
To understand regulatory dynamics associated with circadian rhythms in N. crassa,
I analyzed the topology of the inferred regulatory networks associated with
circadian-related proteins.
