    Position Title: Mine Engineer

    Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer, the Mine Engineer is an intermediate working level professional contributing to open pit mining and construction activities for the Eskay Creek Revitalization project. The Mine Engineer will lead the integration of short range mine planning and drill-and-blast activities into mining operations to support the project.

    Responsibilities (Including but not limited to)

    The Mine Engineer will be a key member of a newly established technical services team and will perform a wide range of duties including some or all the following:

  • Develop and communicate Drill-and-Blast designs to mine operations for field execution.
  • Responsible for the development of the Short-Range Mine Plan, and Mine Waste Management Plan.
  • Execution support for open pit development, road building, and other construction projects.
  • Support site explosives procurement and inventory through communications with operations and suppliers.
  • Support technical scope development, bid analysis, and recommendation to award documentation relating to key tender packages for mine construction and operational readiness.
  • Development and implementation of engineering standard operating procedures
  • Analyse mine key performance indicators and integrates changes to KPI's into future plans
  • Promote a safety leadership culture by ensuring that safety practices are followed in accordance with Skeena's health and safety policies.
  • Comply with the requirements of the health and safety guidelines, policies, and rules for the Eskay Creek site.
  • Any other duties reasonably assigned to you by the employer.

    The Ideal Candidate

    Academic / Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering or other related discipline is required.
  • P.Eng. designation with EGBC or Engineer-in-Training status working towards a P.Eng.

    Required Skills / Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years Open-Pit mining experience (technical and operational), with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience with flexibility and creativity in dealing with drill-and-blast, mine design, scheduling, production planning, and other complex technical challenges.
  • Proficient with mine planning, design, and scheduling software packages - Deswik experience in preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and comfortable making recommendations.
  • Capability to work in a self-directed manner and possess good time management skills.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, with experience working on greenfield or brownfield start-up projects being considered an asset.

    Working Conditions:

    This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation with a combination of work from home or office during the off-season months during the winter 2024 / '25. Additionally, the job is in a fast-paced working environment, with having to manage multiple competing priorities.

    The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace Airport, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena's Travel Policy.

    There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
