    Incident & Emergency Management Department


    Temporarily reporting to the Director COIMS and Occupational Safety, the Sr Safety Advisor is accountable for providing technical and functional leadership in Health & Safety with a strong focus on improving incident management systems.

    The incumbent will champion the implementation of Health & Safety processes that are aligned with Cenovus's Operational Integrity Management System (COIMS) and ensure compliance to regulatory standards and statutes for all aspects of Health & Safety.

    The successful candidate will partner with the line leaders to provide mentorship to grow knowledge around the incident management processes and build investigation capacity to continue learning from our incidents preventing reoccurrence.

    This position is a full time, permanent position, located at the Calgary head office.

    Provide an independent view of risk from operations; intervention may be required based on the risk identified.

    Coach & mentor personnel at our assets on Cenovus's Incident Management processes.

    investigation techniques, root cause analysis, data entry into Cenovus's incident management database, action development and incident learning to prevent reoccurrence.


    Perform assurance activities as outlined in the yearly assurance plans to determine effectiveness of the incident management processes at each entity, looking for opportunities to continuously improve.

    Coach, mentor and educate site leadership and front-line staff on occupational safety. This includes collaboration with site leadership to meet and/or exceed performance metrics outlined in the Entities yearly performance contract.

    Help the entities implement and maintain the Cenovus operational integrity management system (COIMS) and assured effectiveness.


    Collaborate with the other individuals within Deployed Health & Safety in similar roles to improve our overall incident management systems.

    Occupational Health and Safety Certificate, Diploma, or Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution is an asset.

    Minimum 5-7 years of experience in a Health & Safety environment is an asset.

    Minimum 7-10 years of experience in an Oil & Gas environment is an asset.

    Minimum 5 years performing Cause Analysis, Incident Investigations, safety audits, and inspections is an asset.

    A Class 5 (non-GDL) driver's license, or equivalent, is required.


    Internal candidates that are currently in a lower grade will be assessed based on their sustained job performance, how they demonstrate the expected organizational competency behaviors and values and in discussions with their current leader prior to determining next steps.
