    Description
    Are you interested in a challenging and rewarding career? We're looking for a Construction Director overseeing key construction management programs and ensure proper oversight of multiple construction projects at the CNL Chalk River site.     • Providing construction expertise and resources to ensure optimum productivity on all CRL work fronts.
    • Establishing and leading the Construction organization where personnel are matrixed to and imbedded within the CRL projects and support day-to-day construction activities.
    • Providing oversight of contractor execution activities, including senior level management focus directly to the field to promote expeditious responses to changed conditions, contractual challenges, timely issue resolution, and other project progress impediments.
    • Standardizing construction approaches and methods across the CRL to achieve consistency and ensure quality results.
    • Preparing and attending internal and external project progress meetings.
    • Interacting with other missions via Project directors, PMs, and leads regarding project objectives, strategies, and contractor performance and concerns.
    • Ensuring maintenance of a project issues log for each active site including contractor performance and concerns, resourcing, permitting/approvals, access agreements, long-lead items, stakeholder concerns, etc.
    • Conducting regular, scheduled onsite surveillances of every active CRL work front.
    • Responding to requests from projects to assist with progress challenges.
    • Interacting with other matrix support groups to align with project objectives.
    • Providing senior level interaction with stakeholders as required.
    • Interacting with contractors at various management levels as dictated by project circumstances and requirements.
    • Working with Contracts, Training and Projects to ensure development and implementation of training sessions for CNL construction personnel.
    • Supervising, mentoring, developing, and retaining the Construction team/organization.
    • Providing oversight of construction contractors on site at all CRL work fronts. This includes work coordination, safety program implementation, work planning, and execution/performance.
    • Overseeing the development and rollout of industry standard construction processes such as work management, safe work practices, and contractor management.
    • Participating in review and qualification of new contractors at the CRL.
    • Working with various CNL missions in the integration and rollout of common construction processes and procedures throughout the HWP.
    • Leading constructability exercises and perform optimization of contractor schedules and estimates.
    • Establishing and maintaining links with relevant site support functions to enable effective communication, planning and management of contractor construction activities
    What we are looking for:
    • Possesses a Degree (or equivalent experience) from an accredited university in a discipline relevant to construction, project management, engineering, applied/building sciences, and an excellent track record for leading projects to successful conclusion
    • Possesses at least twenty (20) years of progressively responsible construction management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, with recent experience as a Construction Manager, ideally in a nuclear environment.
    • Demonstrated experience in all of the typical phases of construction management.
    • Demonstrated experience in a position where strong leadership skills such as team building and motivating staff and people skills were demonstrated and results evident
    • Strong general management skills, including planning, budgeting, resourcing, time management, negotiation skills, contract management and administration, and progress reporting for an executive audience.
    • Ability to design program work plans based on the big picture.
    • Manage the program's workload through prudent resource planning and prioritizing. Guide program projects and resources to avoid obstacles, shift priorities and adapt program plans. Heeds early warning signals and advises the Vice-President and others, as needed
    • Delegate appropriately to managers.
    • Ability to manage resources to maximize output. Set realistic timelines and clear accountabilities for project directors, and managers.
    • Follows through on the program's business plan from planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating to reporting.
    • Integrates Comptrollership, federal regulations, and policies into program practices.
    • Responds decisively and quickly to emerging opportunities or risks.
    • Maintains composure in adverse situations to alleviate pressure and maintain momentum.
    • Excellent knowledge and experience with Ontario's Occupation Health and Safety Act including the execution of construction safety programs under the Act.
    • Extensive understanding of federal licensing regulations, nuclear codes and standards, and environmental regulations and standards.
    • Extensive knowledge of the interrelationship of the outputs and interdependencies of those functions engaged to provide project activities of CNL's project management and review process (SRC; OCE Review; IOB; Safety and Licensing).
    • Extensive knowledge of processes related to strategic planning, human resources, and the management of people.
    • Strong general management skills, including planning, budgeting, resourcing, time management, negotiation skills, contract management and administration, and progress reporting for an executive audience.

    • This role is based out of CNL's Chalk River, which will be the designated workplace. CNL may require travel from time to time, as necessary.
