    The Opportunity - Residence Life Coordinator - permanent, full-time

    The Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) is responsible for the overall development and implementation of the Residence Life Program. Through a lens of student centeredness, the RLC oversees the development and delivery of social and educational programs that cultivate a sense of belonging for all residents. Additionally, the RLC will be responsible for overseeing community living in residence which includes the supervision of a team of Resident Assistants who are essential in connecting students to campus resources. This role also implements and enforces the policies outlined in the Residence Handbook, which creates the sense of community and overall safety within the residence complex. This individual will assist with the various administrative functions of the Residence Services Team. This role seeks to enhance the overall student experience on campus.

    Key Job Functions:

    Programming and Resident Assistant Leadership

  • Provide effective leadership to Resident Assistants through recruiting, hiring, training, supervision and performance evaluation.
  • Approves and monitors all Residence programs and activities ensuring that the Resident Assistants are organizing a balanced and diverse mix of activities and events.
  • Manages the Residence Life programming budget.
  • Ensures the advertising and marketing of programming is appropriate, effective and timely.
  • Empower and support the Resident Assistant team to manage @livingatoc social account(s).
  • Develops bi-weekly submissions for the Olds College Student Life Newsletter.
  • Organizes and implements Residence Orientation Week in collaboration with the Residence Services Team and the campus community.
  • Work with college departments and community resources in the organization of the residence life programs.
  • Work to continually increase and improve student engagement and ultimately student retention.
  • Acts as a resource for students regarding personal, academic, and social concerns and by referring to appropriate campus resources as necessary in order to assist students in adapting to college life.
  • Assesses effectiveness of previous year's policies and programs and provides recommendations for changes and improvements.
  • Community Standards

  • Reviews, develops, implements and enforces the policies outlined in the Residence Handbook, enhancing the community and safety within Residence.
  • Uses multiple techniques to implement policies such as restorative justice and informal resolution processes.
  • Conducts incident investigations, including but not limited to, using camera footage and interviews.
  • Responds to student concerns in a timely manner while creating and maintaining detailed records of incidents with specific recommendations and objectives.
  • Collaborates with fellow internal and external stakeholders to aid in student development within the community; specifically acting as the primary liaison with Olds College Student Health and Wellness and Campus Security.
  • Participates in key Olds College community functions including Student Conduct Team and Sexual Violence Response Team as needed.
  • Maintains relevant working knowledge of Olds College policies, disciplinary practices and applicable legislation .
  • Work closely with campus partners including Campus Security and Health and Wellness to respond to a variety of students needs, and provide ongoing support and resources.
  • Serves in a professional and caring manner respecting the needs, wishes and abilities of all students, exhibiting philosophies and vision of Residence Services and Olds College.
  • Participate in a bi-weekly on-call rotation to address and coordinate critical situations and emergencies (eg: fire evacuations, medical concerns, assault, sexual violence and suicide intervention.)
  • Administrative and Program Development

  • Supports the functions of the Residence move-in and move-out processes.
  • Compiles reports with specific recommendations and objectives.
  • Implement changes to improve quality of residence living.
  • Assist in marketing initiatives including but not limited to; Preview Days, Discovery Days, Open House.
  • Conducts Residence and campus tours.
  • Liaises with the food service provider to ensure student satisfaction through a variety of feedback forums.
  • Assist in marketing initiatives including but not limited to; Preview Days, Discovery Days, Open House, Orientations, and Resident Assistant training.
  • Completes and follows-up on room inspections.
  • Performs maintenance tasks as directed, such as changing door batteries.
  • Monitors building conditions. Reports suspected problems and/or unsafe conditions (e.g., unusual odors, discolorations, noises, leaks, etc.).
  • Works with facilities team and external contractors on maintenance needs, facility access control, and security system.
  • Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Diploma or Degree in a related field is preferred.
  • 2-3 years previous experience working within Residence Life is preferred.
  • Demonstrated creativity, initiative and an ability to organize and facilitate events.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in student development theories.
  • Outstanding customer service skills and commitment to student success.
  • Must have a capacity for self-development and professional growth.
  • Good organizational, time management, and prioritizing skills.
  • Ability to establish rapport and trust with students.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of the student life cycle, and be able to respond to a variety of community living based situations.
  • Must have a high level of independence and an ability to think and perform under stressful situations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills and capacity to relate positively with members of the community.
  • Presentation skills are an asset.
  • Demonstrate a high level of service delivery and professional skills, including the ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Computer proficiency using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Note: This is a live-off position.

  • Some hours outside of the College's regular hours may be required, including on-call hours.
