    We are looking for a Real Time Trader to join our team who is responsible for managing the wholesale gas and power position for a large Alberta utility. The decisions and strategies your team make will be implemented daily with a direct and measurable effect on the bottom line.

    Real time traders help optimize ENMAX's generation portfolio while managing/hedging the company's exposure to real-time market conditions. As a Trader you will dispatch our facilities, import and export power, monitor compliance risk and implement our strategy for offering our units into the Alberta Interconnected Electrical System (AIES) through the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO).

    Major Responsibilities:

  • Analyze data to look for profitable physical/financial trading strategies.
  • Submit offers for generation facilities to the AESO to optimize our position, reduce costs and maximize revenue.
  • Act as the point of contact between ENMAX generation facilities and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Respond to all AESO dispatches and directives, ensuring compliance with all applicable rules and regulations
  • Create market forecasting reports and distribute/present to internal groups.
  • Forecast power prices through analyzing short- and medium-term market fundamentals.
  • Manage and communicate generation availability to the trading group, including outage and testing information.
  • Develop and maintain models used for market analysis and generation optimization.
  • Provide training/mentoring/coaching to ES1 real time traders
  • Provide weekend/holiday gas trading and scheduling backup for ENMAX's gas desk.

    • Qualifications & Experience:

  • University degree – Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Finance or Business
  • 2+ years of experience in a trading/analyst role
  • Programming experience would be considered a strong asset

    • Competencies:

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong programming experience and knowledge of SQL and VBA/Excel
  • Proficiency in another programming language (i.e. Python, Ruby) considered a strong asset
  • Effective communications, multi-tasking, and time management skills
  • Strong statistical and quantitative abilities and/or data management skills

    Location: This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) work force with office workspace located at ENMAX Place th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
