The Verification and Audit Unit within Child Care Corporate Finance, ensures that contracted services and subsidies for Child Care are organized in a manner that promotes quality services, quality improvements and complies with legislation, government core and ministry policy and standards for contracted services.


The Manager, Audit and Assurance leads a high functioning team of professionals focusing on financial audits and investigations, contract oversight and governance, and review and verification of benefit claims.

In addition to the supervisory and staff management responsibilities, the position is responsible for the planning and performance of the unit, leading the development and implementation of a comprehensive audit and investigation program for the Child Care Division that identifies, reduces and controls levels of error, overpayments and fraud.

The position develops prevention and compliance strategies, reviews drafts of legislation, and recommends policy and legislative changes to improve program effectiveness.


The position provides expertise and recommendations regarding assurance, financial and administrative matters and supports oversight activities that promote and monitor compliance with government core and ministry specific policy and standards.


Job Requirements:


  • Professional accounting designation (CPA/CA/CGA/CMA).

Note: If your designation was obtained from outside of Canada, you will need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through CPA Canada in order to be considered.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Law, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in accounting, financial management, internal controls, or auditing.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience leading and developing diverse teams.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with risk assessment and internal/financial control frameworks.
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent (within the last 5 years) experience in auditing/reviewing financial practices and developing recommendations to senior management.
Preference May Be Given to Applicants With The Following:

  • Experience in fraud prevention and detection.
  • Experience managing multifaceted projects.
