- Graduation from a recognized university with a degree in science, industrial hygiene, nursing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience demonstrating knowledge of various theories, principles, practices and methods associated with occupational health and safety and workplace wellness;
- Experience in the development and implementation of occupational health and safety programs and service delivery frameworks, including the necessary policy, process and service delivery mechanisms;
- Ability to interpret applicable health and safety legislation, relevant standards and/or accepted best practices;
- Knowledge of federal legislation (Part II of the Canada Labour Code, Government Compensation Act, etc.) and a broad knowledge of the OHS legislative and regulatory framework that support a safe workplace across other jurisdictions (e.g. Workplace Safety Insurance Board of Ontario; Commission de la santé et sécurité du travail du Québec);
- Specialized knowledge and expertise on the methods and techniques used to conduct workplace inspections, hazard identification, accident investigations, and coordinate functional audits as it relates to OSH compliance;
- Ability to synthesize multiple sources of information or summarize complex problems and present the subject in a concise written or oral briefing;
In-depth and comprehensive knowledge of current practices for occupational health and safety as well as wellness and related strategies to manage complex and sensitive situations; - Strong leadership, interpersonal skills, ability to influence agreement and build relationships with executive leaders throughout the organization;
- Resiliency to handle shifting priorities and maintain demeanor in high intensity situations;
- Excellent diplomacy, tact, and conflict resolution skills complemented by superior oral and written communications skills in both official languages.

As the Senior Advisor, Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness, you will play a pivotal role in the continued momentum towards building a culture of safety at the Senate. Your skills and expertise are critical to the development, implementation and delivery of corporate wide projects and initiatives that ensure compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, as well as a psychologically safe workplace and inclusive culture. The programs and services you develop and implement are applicable to employees of the Senate Administration as well as senators and their staff.
Your initial priority will be to complete the development and lead the implementation of the Senate's hazard prevention program. On a day-to-day basis you are advising, promoting and coaching management and employees on relevant health and safety work standards, tools, practices, procedures, and regulations. As the subject matter expert and trusted resource, you will also work closely with key stakeholders across the Senate to provide recommendations on the, priorities, trends and best practices related to occupational health, safety and wellness programs and services.
Your expert advice will inform and shape the decisions of all levels of leadership at the Senate. To be successful in this role you are a strategic thinker with great analytical, interpersonal and communication skills. You are a strong team-player and natural collaborator who influences change and is highly responsive to organizational needs.
