- Supports Indigenous community and organization priorities related to injury prevention.
- Supervises a team of regional casual facilitators.
- Promote the program to Indigenous communities; assist in gathering support and interest for the program.
- Schedules programs and instructors for each community according to individual needs.
- Ensures proper tools are available for running the programs and maintains the budget and administrative requirements.
- Attends one week of professional development at the start of peak season.
- Schedules and attends one week of training for community facilitators, focusing on cultural awareness and professional development.
- Organizes and encourages community engagement opportunities for the instructor team.
- Integrates Occupational Health and Safety standards into community programming and facilitator training.
- Maintains accurate timesheets of casual community facilitators to ensure timely pay.
- Delivers services against the geographic CSE plans.
- Ensures professional conduct of self and teams according to the instructor Code of Conduct.
- Monitors long-term and daily lesson plans for the team.
- Plans activities appropriate for the age group and swim level of participants.
- Maintains safety (cultural, mental, and physical) and ensures supervision of participants at all times.
- Maintain regional inventory of materials and equipment.
- Undergraduate degree with a specialization in social sciences, Indigenous relations, sport and recreation, preferred, or a combination of relevant work experience in lieu of a formal degree.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of job-related work experience.
- Must hold a current Swim for Life Instructor (Lifesaving Society) certification or higher.
- Current Standard First Aid and Lifeguard Qualifications.
- Experience working with a diverse population and an understanding of Aboriginal culture is an asset.
- Have the ability to travel to remote communities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; fluency in a second language an asset.
- Some computer skills and experience (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Strong customer service, training, problem solving, and interpersonal skills required
- Preference will be given to a self-declared Indigenous candidate.
- Understanding of the contemporary diversity and history of Indigenous peoples across Canada.
- Understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, the Calls to Justice from the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and UNDRIP, as well as human rights safeguards and protection frameworks for Indigenous communities and peoples.
- Knowledge of the IPF and the CRC commitment to reconciliation, cultural safety, community-based service delivery, and collaboration with Indigenous leadership.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to work with employees and volunteers at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid full/unrestricted driver's license (class 5 not GDL in BC).
- Occasionally required to work non-traditional hours to meet travel and other commitments and during times of a disaster response.
- This may include long to moderate hours sitting and using computers and office equipment.
- Ability to work in stressful and often ambiguous conditions.
