    Health & Safety Coordinator

    Job Description

    Reports to: VP People & Culture

    Role Summary

    Develop, implement and manage health & safety policies and procedures that will minimize risk and enhance profitability. Provide support to business partners, management and facilities on health and safety-related matters. Evaluate and analyze the company's health, safety and regulatory performance. Provide coaching and training to staff and management related to incident prevention, reduction of costs related to incidents, WCB, WSIB, OH&S compliance and safety awareness.

    Key Responsibilities

    Health & Safety

    • Stay abreast of OH&S/WCB or WSIB regulations, ensuring operational compliance
    • Develop and implement processes to support incident prevention and WCB/WSIB cost reduction.
    • Investigate, prepare, and review reports of injury, property damage and claims involving the stores, offices and distribution centres.
    • Develop and implement H&S policies and procedures.
    • Develop and maintain hazard assessments.
    • Update WHMIS, TDG and other related documentation
    • Participate and chair health and safety audits.
    • Participate in Safety Committee meetings.
    • Collaborate with co-workers and Safety Committee members to enhance the overall safety culture.
    • Assist with and support health and safety training programs as needed.
    • Advise on the safe disposal of dangerous goods and spill cleanup procedures.

    Safety

    Follow all Peavey Industries safety policies, procedures, and protocols, report any accidents/incidents, near misses, injuries and concerns to your manager or a health and safety committee representative, and work in a safe manner that ensures the health and safety of themselves and all other on the work site (including but not limited to Peavey staff, vendors, customers, etc.), this includes working in a manner that is in alignment with and promotes psychological and social well-being.

    Scope of Role

    • Decisions will have major impacts outside of the functional area
    • Understanding a range of work procedures and practices, some of which are non-routine, which require a base level of specialized/technical knowledge - acquired through some formal training or equivalent experience
    • Requires the skill to deliver professional advice or direction or present opinions and recommendations - use some persuasion, and negotiation but not as a regular activity
    • Internal & External
    • Modifies existing processes in order to resolve issues - updating existing work methods
    • Work is guided by established objectives, and the employee has freedom to act independently to achieve objectives within appropriate guidelines, practices and precedents
    • Has no budget responsibility
    • Office
    • Travel Required: Domestic Occasional

    Minimum Qualifications or Requirements

    Education

    Formal post-secondary H&S education, certification is an asset

    Experience

    3 years' experience in a health and safety related position
