- Liaise with other City teams across the service continuum to understand how business units' (BU) policies are related to service objectives and governance.
- Coordinate with the Departmental team and other business units including Finance, Law, Climate and Environment and others to ensure legal, financial, environmental, and other considerations are incorporated into Business Unit policy and strategic objectives.
- Review service projects, policies, initiatives, performance measures and financials to report on service performance to Calgarians and Council.
- Evaluate risks, identify, and act on opportunities to connect risk mitigation to service planning, accountability reporting and internal reporting to present a systems-view of services.
- Apply system design frameworks and design thinking methodology to create new customer-focused approaches to service planning, design, and delivery.
- Design, plan, and advance projects to define and address departmental issues, challenges, risks, shared objectives, or emerging needs.
- Conduct cost-benefit analysis, develop business options, and make recommendations that balance financial constraints, customer expectations, regulatory obligations, and operational capacity.
- Lead and/or provide expertise to project teams and working groups to advance Departmental objectives and/or implement Council direction.
- Actively build communities of practice and contribute to learning circles and collaboration circles to apply knowledge to service planning and governance challenges. Qualifications
- A degree in Business, Science, Social Sciences, Environmental Planning, Public Administration, Marketing or Communications and at least 8 years of directly related progressive experience OR
- A graduate degree with at least 5 years of experience.
- Experience in strategic business planning and performance measurement, policy development, engagement with partners and interested parties, risk management and business improvement, as well as in providing strategic advice and support to leaders and decision-makers.
- Knowledge and understanding of Corporate Planning & Financial Services lines of service would be considered an asset.
- The incumbent must be able to build collaborative relationships at all levels of the organization, in a politically sensitive environment.
- This role requires critical and systems thinking, political acumen, strong organizational skills and the ability to work with time-sensitive deadlines.
