    The Role

    This position is responsible forsuccessfully driving the profitability of MCAP's commercial lending programsunder the direction of the Vice President of Origination and in partnershipwith the Senior Director /of Origination.

    The incumbent will work as part of a teamalongside the Senior Director to leverage an existing, established loan book togenerate new insured and conventional commercial mortgage opportunities throughdeveloping, maintaining, and managing relationships with borrowers, brokers andother market participants.

    The incumbent must source and criticallyassess potential new loan applications and be prepared to recommend saidapplications for approval. Approved transactions will then be managed throughthe commitment and funding stages of the loan life cycle in partnership withCMG's underwriting and funding teams.

    Identify new business opportunities byunderstanding and communicating MCAP's value proposition. Meeting with potential prospects, whiledeveloping and maintaining existing client relationships are critical componentsof this role. This role requires theemployee to have a car and to be in and out of the office visiting customers,on average 3 days per week


    Build, maintain, and manage relationshipswith clients

  • Work alongside the Senior Director todevelop relationships with existing client base.
  • Leverage existing client base / existingcontacts to identify and develop new client relationships.
  • Educate new and current clients on MCAPproducts.
  • Represent MCAP at various industry events.
  • Leverage market presence to gather keymarket intelligence to better inform MCAP's value proposition.
  • Provide input into new product initiativesbased on market needs.
  • Monitor client service levels to ensurethey are met working as a team.
  • Secure mortgage loan applications fromborrowers and brokers.
  • Add and expand selectively to the MCAP/CMHCApproved Correspondent network.
  • Lead CMHC applications for Certificates ofInsurance.
  • Origination and Structuring of CommercialMortgages

  • Ensure that all loan submissions preparedby the underwriting team contain all relevant facts and arguments that supportor negate the loan application.
  • Work collaboratively with the SeniorDirector to agree priorities and work efficiently to achieve target objectives.
  • Liaise with the underwriting team in orderto better understand the various program requirements for loan quality andpricing.
  • Support the underwriting team in obtainingloan approval (including participation in presentations as required).
  • Structure, price & adjust the loan toreflect the relative risk of the loan from a credit quality perspective.
  • Issue and negotiate Letters of Interest andCommitment Letters.
  • Manage CMHC insurance process (. secureCertificate of Insurance and resolve issues that are referred from fundingrelated to zero hold back release).
  • Perform site inspections on new andexisting mortgaged properties.
  • Loan Management

  • Oversee the progress of a loan through allstages from inception to funding in order to ensure credit quality andtimelines are met and a deal is retained through ongoing communication with thefunding and an investment management teams.
  • Ensure assigned portfolio is up to date onthe Pipeline, working in conjunction with the assigned underwriters and funders.
  • Ensure all new business activity isaccurately recorded and maintained via Salesforce.
  • Support Loan Servicing and PortfolioManagement Teams as required for any activity related to your client base.
  • Assist with the Development of the InvestorMarketing strategy for the Commercial business
  • Supply market intelligence to be utilizedin educating and updating MCAP programs and to support the marketing ofproducts to key stakeholders
  • Provide input and feedback on Commercialmarketing materials (ex. Ads, website, Forums etc)
  • Develop and maintain relationships withCMHC, the mortgage broker and real estate broker networks and professionalassociations.
  • Lead and Manage Staff

  • Champion the company's Vision, Mission andValues as set out in the Strategic Plan both internally and externally withinthe industry.
  • Educate, coach and counsel staff to ensurethey are empowered to effectively handle their roles in a confident andprofessional manner.
  • Establish and maintain an effective systemof communication throughout the business unit.
  • Ensure a continuous improvement culture isestablished and encouraged
  • What You Bring To The Team

  • Minimum of 5 years direct hands-on business development experience in the commercial mortgage market in Canada.
  • Familiarity with CMHC Multi-Family Underwriting, Processes and Procedures.
  • Knowledge of the Multi-Family space, including new construction.
  • Proficient with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint.
  • Proficient with Salesforce is an advantage.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative/confidence and is decisive.
  • Familiarity with CMHC policy and the multi-family marketplace is an asset.
  • Ability to originate transactions with a demonstrated track in marketing and deal negotiations.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business preferred.
  • Completion of Professional Designation (. CAIA, CFA, CPA) is considered an asset.
  • Mortgage Broker License.
  • Personal Automobile/Driver's License

    The employee will be required to use their personal automobile for regular business purposes (3 or more days per week in a normal five-day work week).MCAP will provide company paid parking at the MCAP office to which the employee regularly reports.Under CRA regulations, the company paid parking will be considered non-taxable for this purpose.

    Note:Travel between work and home is not considered travel for business purposes.
