    What You Will Do

    The incumbent is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive Quality Assurance Program for Track Asset Condition Management, Track Measuring Tools, Incoming Inspections, and Rehabilitation/Capital projects. The incumbent is also responsible for monitoring, and coordinating quality control to ensure adherence to safety, maintenance and design standards/guidelines. The job will be responsible for assisting Senior Engineers with quality assurance and quality control related tasks, as assigned. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to provide frontline engineering support to the night shift (e.g. regarding an installation issue) and/or carry out a variety of technical inspections and projects as required.

    This involves:

    • Preparing/reviewing various reports and making recommendations;
    • Coordinating and conducting on-site measurements and inspections to verify data accuracy;
    • Providing input towards the development and review of all contracts, submittals (shop drawings, Operations and Maintenance manuals), quality related work methods and procedures;
    • Making recommendations to improve work methods/procedures as well as the overall efficiency, safety, and cost effectiveness of section operations;
    • Liaising with the Track Maintenance section to assist with evaluation and implementation of new track construction and maintenance products/procedures;
    • Liaising and coordinating with Materials and Procurement and other departmental end-users to ensure required incoming inspections are performed in a timely manner;
    • Performing incoming component/material inspections and measurements to ensure compliance to drawings and specifications;
    • Generating inspection reports and ensuring closure of non-conformance reports (NCRs);
    • Preparing various progress reports, status reports, work breakdown analyses, procedures and Quality Alerts;
    • May be required to set up work zones and perform/monitor power cuts to facilitate work at track level, including contractors' work;
    • Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders, so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service provider and an employer.

    What Qualifications Do You Bring?

    • Completion of a University Degree in Civil and/or Mechanical Engineering, or in a related engineering discipline, combined with several years of related experience in quality assurance and reliability.
    • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
    • Sound knowledge of civil and/or mechanical engineering principles, methods and practices relating to railway track;
    • Sound knowledge of, and/or exposure to, quality control and reliability concepts, management, rail technology and work environment,
    • Familiarity with ISO 9000 (or similar) concepts and practices;
    • Ability to co-ordinate the work of others;
    • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving abilities, sound judgement, combined with effective interpersonal, verbal/written communication and technical report writing skills;
    • Strong computer skills and proficiency with programs used to gather, analyze and report data (i.e. spreadsheets, databases, word processing, etc.);
    • A valid Province of Ontario Class 'G' driver's licence;
    • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
