    LOCATION: Toronto, ON

    ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

    The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) was established in 1975 to elevate the Canadian music industry, set higher artistic and industry standards, and foster music education through various initiatives and programs such as MusiCounts, The JUNO Awards, and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

    MusiCounts, a music education charity associated with CARAS and the JUNO Awards, is committed to ensuring all youth have access to the transformative power of music education by providing instruments, equipment, and resources to schools across Canada.

    OVERALL POSITION

    The Director, Finance plays a crucial role in leading financial planning, budgeting, and reporting for CARAS and MusiCounts as a key member of the executive team, influencing the financial success of both organizations.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Ensure accurate financial information and maintain internal controls
    • Report to the Board of Directors and Audit & Finance committee
    • Lead annual budgeting process and maintain forecasts
    • Monitor revenue and expenses to meet financial targets
    • Participate in business planning with the Executive team
    • Process transactions, reconcile accounts timely
    • Manage cash flow for operations and capital needs
    • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements
    • Oversee investment accounts and payroll
    • Manage year-end audit and government funding applications
    • Risk management and insurance compliance
    • Update Employee Handbook and manage onboarding/offboarding

    CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS & CHARACTERISTICS

    • University degree in commerce, CPA designation
    • 10+ years accounting/finance experience
    • Not-for-profit and board reporting experience
    • Familiarity with Xero and CRA charity rules an asset
    • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
    • HR and talent acquisition knowledge an asset
    • Attention to detail
