- Demonstrate an understanding of the history of colonialism, residential school system and sixties scoop policies in Canada and resulting of impacts of intergenerational trauma and impacts of being raised in care.
- Knowledge of young adult developmental stage.
- Experience practicing with a trauma informed lens.
- Understanding of common mental health considerations, awareness and understanding of sexual and gender diversity, substance use/ addiction issues, and harm reduction.
- Work within a case management framework
- Provide holistic support services to Piikani youth and young adults transitioning from care to adulthood.
- Ensure access to financial support for essential needs and facilitate secure, stable, and comfortable housing arrangements.
- Assist in identifying and accessing learning, educational, and professional development opportunities tailored to individual needs and aspirations.
- Advocate for and facilitate resources to support physical, mental, and social well-being.
- Facilitate opportunities for (re)connection with land, culture, language, and community, respecting the unique cultural identities and preferences of individuals.
- Collaborate with community organizations and cultural leaders to provide culturally appropriate support and programming.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including social workers, educators, healthcare professionals, and community partners, to provide comprehensive support.
- Engage in ongoing communication and collaboration with other service providers to ensure coordinated and integrated care for youth and young adults.
- Regular supervisions and team consults
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of interactions, assessments, and interventions in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare reports and documentation as required for funding purposes, program evaluation, and quality assurance.
- Engage in ongoing professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills in relevant areas, including attending training sessions, workshops, and conferences.
- Advocate for the rights and interests of youth and young adults in care, empowering them to actively participate in decision-making processes regarding their own lives.
- Support individuals in developing self-advocacy skills and accessing resources to achieve their goals and aspirations.
- Provide immediate support and crisis intervention as needed, including connecting individuals with emergency services and resources.
- Offer emotional support and guidance during challenging situations, ensuring individuals feel heard, valued, and supported.
- Adhere to professional and/or agency codes of ethics and standards of practice, including but not limited to maintaining confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethical conduct in all interactions with clients and stakeholders.
- Degree in Human Services, preferably Social Work, Child and Youth Care or Education (Diploma or equivalencies will be considered in combination with related work experience).
- At least two years' work experience in Human Services field.
- Delegated Child Protection experience is an asset, but not required.
- Familiarity with Piikani/ Blackfoot culture and traditional knowledge
- Connection to traditional Knowledge Keepers (or understanding of who to consult with)
- Blackfoot language and cultural knowledge is an asset.
- Group facilitation skills are considered an asset.
- Clean Criminal, and Child Intervention Record Check.
- Valid Driver's license (Driver's abstract required).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
- Experience dealing professionally with confidential and sensitive information.
- Agility: Navigators need to maintain a safe environment where clients can explore / lead change in their life, and be supported.
- Relationship building: Ability to engage with youth in an authentic manner and be understanding of the experiences and needs of Piikani youth who have been raised in the Child Protection system.
- Solution Focused: Understanding of behavioral, emotional and spiritual consequences of having to endure trauma, and ability to walk beside youth to find and encourage strengths and resilience.
- Build Collaborative Environments: Navigators need to actively engage the natural support networks, particularly culturally informed resources that are based on Piikani values and traditions. Navigators will also need to connect youth to other community and government resources as needed.
- Creative Problem Solving: Navigators need to actively listen to their clients and support networks to find solutions that are arrived at collaboratively.

Description
Post-Majority Support Services (PMSS) is a voluntary program for First Nations youth and young adults who were formerly in child protection care, to assist them with their transition to adulthood. Services are available to eligible youth from age 18 yrs to 26 yrs. Post-Majority Support Services aim to work collaboratively with youth to create safety and enhance well-being using a culturally informed approach.The role of the Piikani Child and Family Services' Post-Majority Support Navigator includes but is not limited to:
This is a full-time, permanent position with Piikani Child and Family Services. This position will be based in Calgary and have services offered all over the province. Regular travel is required for the position.
Hours of work will be 8:00am-4:00pm Monday through Friday.
Wage range for this position is $70,000-$82,000 based on relevant education and experience. As this position requires considerable travel, the successful candidate will be offered access to a company-owned motor vehicle.
