    The Climate and Environment department at YVR is responsible for executing the Environmental Management plan, which includes reducing carbon emissions, increasing waste diversion, conserving water, and protecting the ecosystem on Sea Island. Additionally, we oversee YVR's Noise Management Plan, ensuring safe travel while maintaining a pleasant urban environment.

    Position Overview

    The Environmental Specialist with expertise in archaeology at YVR plays a crucial role encompassing various facets. This specialist is in charge of developing and implementing the airport's archaeological program, conducting environmental assessments, and offering professional advice in archaeological resource planning to support development activities at the Vancouver International Airport. They supervise all archaeological fieldwork, monitor environmental impacts, and act as a liaison with stakeholder groups.

    Key Responsibilities Include:

    • Providing professional advice in archaeological resource planning for development activities on Sea Island.
    • Conducting audits such as field inspections, assessments of areas, and excavations of archaeological sites.
    • Preparing cultural resources survey reports, impact assessments, and coordinating archaeology projects.
    • Developing and implementing YVR's Archaeological Program.
    • Representing the Airport Authority at various meetings and conferences.
    • Supervising staff and consultants involved in the program.

    Key Qualifications Include:

    University Degree in Archaeology or Anthropology with a specialization in archeology plus registration as a Professional Archaeologist. 7 years' related experience in archaeological and environmental resource management. Experience working with local First Nations groups and regulatory bodies. Valid BC driver's license required.

    This position is open to both Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external applicants. Short-listed candidates may be required to participate in an assessment process.

    Salary Range:
    $91,587 to $119,696 per annum, based on a 37.5-hour work week. Salaries are customized based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
