    Hopewell Residential currently has an opening for a full-time Senior Accountant to join the Community Development accounting team.

    Reporting:

    This positionwill report directly to the Assistant Controller.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • This position will be responsible for the full cycle accounting of Community Development companies in compliance with ASPE;
  • Assist the Controller Group in the review of monthly financial statements, bank draws, and capital calls;
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements;
  • Review and approval of journal entries;
  • Account analysis and reconciliations, including review of bank statements and inter-company entries;
  • Liaise and maintain professional external communication with stakeholders, including banks and auditors;
  • Work with operational Community Development team members to request information;
  • Preparation and review of tax/GST returns;
  • Monitor and manage project cash;
  • Develop and document processes, while incorporating Accounting & Finance best practices;
  • Assist the with job cost allocations and analysis when required;
  • Participate as a team member within Hopewell, department team meetings and events;
  • Manage one direct report and assist Controller Group management and coaching of other staff;
  • Preparing and/or reviewing ad hoc financial analyses as necessary; and
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be added or modified as required.

    • Requirements:

  • CPA designation;
  • 5+ years of full-cycle accounting experience;
  • Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and maintaining general sub ledgers;
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP principles and financial reporting standards;
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting systems, and Microsoft Office applications;
  • Experience working with NewStar is considered an asset;
  • Previous experience preparing or reviewing T5013 or T2 tax returns is considered an asset, but not strictly required;
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy;
  • Excellent internal and external client relations skills;
  • Self-directed, detail-oriented, optimistic, professional;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Enthusiastic, professional, and team focused individual; and
  • Ability to take initiative, organize and meet time sensitive deadlines.

    • Working Conditions:

    Traditional core office hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. This position may require periodic work outside of normal office hours.
