    Description

    Aston Carter's large client in the Aerospace Manufacturing industry in Calgary is seeking a Sr Accountant on a 6-month contract-to-hire.

    The Sr Accountant will oversee all aspects of the month-end close process and reconciliation activities.

    Reporting directly to the Accounting Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records while adhering to strict deadlines.

    Lead the month-end close process, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reflected in the general ledger in a timely manner.


    • Perform detailed reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, including bank accounts, prepaid expenses, accruals, and intercompany transactions, resolving any discrepancies promptly.
    • Assist in the preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements, providing insights into variances and trends to support management decision-making.
    • Maintain fixed asset records, including depreciation schedules, additions, disposals, and impairment assessments, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
    • Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures, as well as regulatory requirements, including GAAP and relevant tax regulations.
    • Identify opportunities to streamline month-end close processes and improve efficiency through automation or process enhancements.
    • Collaborate with internal and external auditors to provide documentation and support during audits, addressing any audit findings or recommendations.
    • Provide guidance and training to junior accounting staff involved in the month-end close process, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement

    Additional Skills & Qualifications:

    Must Haves:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Finance
    • 5-7 years of experience within corporate accounting
    • CPA designation
    • Working knowledge of US GAAP and knowledge of IFRS
    • Excellent computer skills including an advanced level of proficiency in MS Excel
    • Large Public Company experience or Audit Firm experience Nice to Have:
    • Previous experience working with Power BI
    • Previous ERP system experience such a Visual and or IFS
    • Manufacturing environment exposure
    • Big 4 Public Practice experience

    • A strong drive to continuously evaluate and improve processes.
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task, manage several project deadlines concurrently.
