    The Position:

    TheHead of Library Information Centre is responsible for developing, implementing,and managing library programs, services and resources that support the JK-12curriculum, enhance information literacy skill building and foster a readingculture.

    As the Head of Library Information Centre, you will workcollaboratively with the Upper School Department Heads and the Administrationto set and shape department direction, philosophy and goals aligned to theschool's mission, vision, values and strategic plan. You are creative,innovative, open to the ideas of others and inspire with vision. You haveproven leadership skills in long-term program planning, teaching informationliteracy and research skills, and supporting inquiry andinterdisciplinary/transdisciplinary teaching and learning methodologies. Youare responsible for supervising the library and archives staff, including theJunior School Librarian, Library Technician and College Archivist. You willalso manage the library department budget and department resources, includingonline library resources and services such as the library website and librarymanagement system.

    As anexperienced librarian, you willbe well-positioned to work with faculty, students and other strategicstakeholders to support the development of new programming , to evolve your practice and to support the learning ofothers through creative collaboration and facilitating access tohigh-quality resources. You will demonstrateflexibility, enthusiasm and a willingness to work in a rapidly changingenvironment. You are open to exploring best practice and drawing on theHavergal context to take an innovative and creative approach to the evolutionof the library program and services. All faculty are expected, as part of their role, to participate actively in the lifeof the school beyond the classroom , includingcontributions as coaches and facilitators in the arts, athletics, clubs,community life and experiential and global education programs.

    SpecificAccountabilities:

    Develop and maintain an up-to-date and diversecollection of print and digital resources relevant to the curriculum andteaching and learning at Havergal, and to the personal interests of students;

    • Collaboratewith faculty to integrate and teach research and information literacy skillsacross all subject areas;
    • Collaboratewith faculty to design and implement engaging inquiry learning opportunitiesthat integrate multiple literacies and foster critical thinking;
    • Developonline library content (LibGuides) to support teaching and learning, andcollaborate with faculty to integrate online tools into a blended learningenvironment;
    • Promotereading for understanding, enjoyment and personal growth;
    • Create aninclusive and welcoming library environment and manage the library's physicalspace
    • Createdisplays to showcase resources and highlight important events/commemorations
    • Managelibrary invoicing, library department budgets, and library scheduling
    • Manage UpperSchool circulation
    • Manage dutiesof library department staff JK-12

    Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:

    • Relevantuniversity qualifications preferably at the graduate level (Bachelor ofEducation plus Librarianship Part 3 (AQ) or a Master of Library and InformationStudies);
    • Certificationfrom the Ontario College of Teachers and be a member in 'Good Standing'; or itsequivalent is an asset
    • A minimum of5 years exemplary teaching experience in an academic, secondary school(Independent school experience is an asset or similar experience working as alibrarian in an academic setting).
    • Leadershipexperience in an educational setting an asset
    • Knowledge ofcurrent educational practices;
    • Knowledge ofthe current research on girls and learning;
    • Knowledge ofresearch and inquiry processes and methodologies
    • Ability tocollaborate with faculty to effectively plan and implement interdisciplinaryunits that support student learning, engagement and success;
    • Knowledge ofinstructional technology and ability to explore, test and iterate features ofthe Learning Management System.
