- Anticipate and mitigate potential risks to Cenovus's reputation; promote and enhance the company's reputation as a responsible integrated energy leader.

- Write general news releases; develop and maintain key messaging documents, standby statements and media backgrounders about Cenovus's operations, sustainability performance, technologies and key issues.
- Write quarterly news releases and conference call notes on a rotating basis.
- Collaborate on and produce the company's annual Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report, and contribute to other key corporate documents.
- Write speeches, speaking notes and prepare documents for Executives, Senior Leaders or subject matter authorities.
- Be an effective spokesperson for the company; respond to media inquiries; where appropriate, find effective spokespeople within the company, including executives; provide interview prep docs, prep sessions and media training, as required.
- Provide external communications counsel to Executives and Senior Leaders.
- Review and edit key documents for accuracy, tone, and consistent messaging.
- Provide strategic communications counsel and on-call support for emergency response.
- Carry out other external or internal assignments, as required.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- At least 8+ years of professional communications experience, including considerable time working in a corporate communications or journalism role.
- Demonstrated superior writing, editing and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent critical and strategic thinking skills.
- A track record of working with the media and as a company spokesperson.
- Hands-on experience in developing and/or coordinating the delivery of major external communications documents such as an ESG report or corporate annual report.
- Previous experience working collaboratively with an investor relations team and familiarity with key investor-related documents (e.g. MD&A and Consolidated Financial Statements)
- Ability to build strong cross-team working relationships within a corporate setting.
- Experience working in an on-call emergency communications role, including in an Emergency Operations Centre.
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to work in an environment where priorities and deliverables shift.
- Experience with the Canadian oil and gas industry and a strong understanding of current industry issues.
- Executive speech writing and ESG report experience.
- Experience in high-pressure situations such as television interviews and/or direct newsroom experience.
