    Summary of the Role

    The Emergency and Protective Services department is responsible for protecting the health, property, and quality of life in Ottawa through an integrated public safety department that encompasses Ottawa Fire Services, the Ottawa Paramedic Service, By-law & Regulatory Services, Public Safety Services, Public Policy Development Services and Business and Technical Support Services.

    As General Manager, you are accountable for providing vision, leadership, and strategic direction to the Emergency and Protective Services Department, and planning, organizing, directing, controlling, evaluating, and improving the development and delivery of departmental priorities, services, programs and operations.

    You will facilitate the development and implementation of cross-departmental synergies and corporate-wide organizational effectiveness, strategies, and policies in collaboration with other members of the Senior Leadership Team, the City Manager and City Council. You will ensure that the City's mission and core values and Council priorities and direction are incorporated into strategic and operational activities and services. As a leader, you will direct the Department's human resources, control the departmental budget, and represent the City in the community and with other external partners.

    As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will advise and consult with the City Manager on Departmental policy and strategic issues, as well as participate in various working groups and committees. You will ensure that your work, and that of your team is carried out in accordance with legislation and corporate policies.

    You would be proficient in both French and English. This is a bilingual position and fluency in both of Canada's official languages is required and a language assessment will be completed as part of the selection process. In exceptional circumstances, and subject to Council approval, candidates that do not meet the language requirement may be considered.

    Résumé du poste

    Le mandat de la Direction générale des services de protection et d'urgence consiste à protéger la santé, les biens et la qualité de vie des résidents d'Ottawa par l'intermédiaire d'un service de sécurité publique intégrée, qui comprend le Service des incendies d'Ottawa, le Service paramédic d'Ottawa, les Services des règlements municipaux, le Service de sécurité publique, les Services d'élaboration de politiques publiques, ainsi que les Services de soutien technique et aux activités.

    En tant que directeur général, vous serez responsable de fournir la vision, le leadership et l'orientation stratégique des Services de protection et d'urgence, ainsi que de planifier, d'organiser, de diriger, de contrôler, d'évaluer et d'améliorer l'élaboration et l'exécution de ses priorités, services, programmes et activités.

    Vous serez appelé à faciliter la création et la mise en œuvre de synergies entre les directions générales et de stratégies et de politiques d'efficacité organisationnelle dans l'ensemble de l'organisation en collaboration avec d'autres membres de l'équipe de la haute direction, la directrice municipale et le Conseil municipal. Vous veillerez à ce que la mission et les valeurs fondamentales de la Ville, tout comme les priorités et les orientations du Conseil municipal, soient intégrées aux activités et aux services stratégiques et opérationnels. Vous serez également appelé à diriger les ressources humaines et à superviser le budget de la Direction générale, ainsi qu'à représenter la Ville auprès de la communauté et d'autres partenaires externes.

    En tant que membre de l'équipe de la haute direction, vous conseillerez et consulterez la directrice municipale au sujet des enjeux politiques et stratégiques de la Direction générale et siégerez à divers groupes de travail et comités. Vous vous assurerez également que votre travail et celui de votre équipe sont conformes aux lois et aux politiques applicable.

    Vous maîtrisez le français et l'anglais. Ce poste est désigné bilingue et la maîtrise des deux langues officielles du Canada est exigée. Une évaluation linguistique sera menée au cours du processus de sélection. Dans des circonstances exceptionnelles, des candidats qui ne répondent pas aux exigences linguistiques pourraient être envisagés pour ce poste sous réserve de l'approbation du Conseil.
