    THE OPPORTUNITY – LIFEGUARD/SWIM INSTRUCTOR

    The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor is responsible for creating a positive and safe aquatic environment under the direction and leadership of Aquatics Assistant Managers and Head Lifeguards. The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor will ensure that all swimming lessons, lifeguarding, and pool maintenance rules and regulations are adhered to, which are established by the Lifesaving Society.

    Hours of work will be dependent on business operations, facility hours and program needs. Lifeguard/Swim Instructors are scheduled prior to facility opening hours and past facility closing hours for specific aquatic opening and closing duties.

    WHAT YOU WILL DO

    • Perform lifeguarding duties in accordance with the Lifesaving Society's National Lifeguard standards
    • Teach and evaluate lessons in accordance with the Lifesaving Society's Swim for Life curriculum
    • Maintain a professional, positive and open attitude when communicating with consumers and colleagues that effectively promotes Vecova as a leading Recreation Centre
    • Maintain Instructor Worksheets throughout the course of a session
    • Present feedback on participant's performance to participants/parents in a sensitive and factual manner
    • Respond quickly, appropriately, and efficiently to ALL First Aid incidents in the building. Record all required information and submit reports to the Aquatics Assistant Manager
    • Ensure proper maintenance procedures are followed for pool water chemistry and systems including: water testing, chemical balance, system maintenance
    • Ensure Health and Safety standards are met for the Aquatics area
    • Regularly monitor aquatic tools and equipment to ensure all are clean and in good working condition
    • Ensure that the change rooms and pool deck are in good working order and clear of hazards at the start and end of each day

    WHAT YOU BRING
    We are looking to engage team members with diverse skills, experiences, and interests. These are some of the competencies and credentials we are looking for:

    • Experience as a Lifeguard/Swim Instructor is an asset
    • Teaching First Aid and/or Red Cross Youth Leader experience is an asset

    Must demonstrate:

    • Effective communication skills both verbal and written
    • Caring/compassion/understanding/respecto Strong organizational skills
    • Strong, independent work ethic with a customer service focus
    • Problem solving skills
    • Situational awareness

    Required certifications and knowledge in:

    • National Lifeguard certification
    • Swim Instructor/Examiner certification
    • Lifesaving Instructor/Examiner certification
    • Standard First Aid CPR Level C-AED / Intermediate First Aid

    Current WHMIS certification is an asset

    • Demonstrate a high standard of professionalism aligned with Vecova values
    • Maintain a positive working relationship with all Vecova team members
    • Represent Vecova in a professional manner
    • Demonstrate a high level of initiative and enthusiasm
    • Maintain confidentiality at all times
    • Demonstrate a high level of administrative and IT capacity
