    Role overview

    The Communications and Brand Specialist plays a vital, generalist role at Eva's. Responsibilities will include developing and coordinating content across various communication channels, ensuring alignment with the organization's brand voice and values. With oversight from the Digital Marketing Manager, they will also help oversee the organization's digital platforms, develop social media content, and conduct analytics tracking. Additionally, the specialist will contribute to broader internal and external organizational communication and brand initiatives including public relations, advocacy and research projects.

    Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications and Development, the Communications and Brand Specialist role requires strong technical skills in communications while bringing a strong commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), creating content that aligns with our Black-centered approach to supporting youth experiencing homelessness.

    Responsibilities

    Content Development and Storytelling

    • execute a comprehensive communications strategy through messaging and content development, including projects like the annual report, web, fundraising campaign materials, email, and other digital or print collateral.
    • maintain digital platforms including web, intranet, and online giving portals.
    • client stories collection process and utilization across the organization.
    • the social media content calendar, including draft social media content and analyzing its performance, ensuring it is engaging, on brand, and reflective of Eva's values.
    • with photography and small in-house video projects, capturing visual content to enhance communication efforts across various platforms.

    Public Relations and Brand Support:

    • with media inquiries and outreach.
    • news releases, media advisories, speaking notes, scripts, etc. to increase brand reach and visibility in the community.
    • with government and organizational stakeholder correspondence.
    • opportunities to position Eva's as a thought leader:
    • stakeholder activities, events, and reports.
    • briefs and summaries.
    • statistics tracking and research on key issues, including working on Eva's annual youth survey.

    Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) competency:

    • EDI principles into all communications, ensuring that messaging consistently reflects the organization's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
    • an understanding of anti-Black racism and anti-oppression principles to all communications, promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion.
    • with the organization's Programs and Services and Equity teams to integrate Eva's broader racial equity goals and principles into communications.

    Qualifications

    • degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
    • solid understanding of anti-Black racism, anti-oppression, and social justice principles.
    • 3 years of non-profit experience in communications, public relations or a related field.
    • of digital marketing and social media platforms and analytics.
    • with Adobe, Canva, and project management tools (Click Up, Trello, etc.) an asset.
    • to Eva's mission and values, including a dedication to supporting Black youth experiencing homelessness.
    • in First Aid/CRP and Toronto Shelter Standards (TSS) or willingness to complete.
    • written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor communications to different audiences and stakeholders.
    • of and interest in sector-wide issues connected to youth homelessness, housing, anti-racism, and social justice issues.
    • collaboration skills, including the ability to manage varying volumes of work and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with team members, donors, media, and other stakeholders confidently and professionally.
    • with graphic design principles and best practices.
