    Description

    Overview

    The Saskatchewan Research Council's (SRC) Rare Earth Element Division has a career opportunity for a Research Technologist. This position will assist with research and development activities at SRC's Rare Earth Processing Facility—North America's first fully integrated, commercial, demonstration facility with hydrometallurgy, separation and metal smelting units. Join a growing team that is working to establish a rare earth element (REE) technology hub in Saskatchewan, forming an industry model for future commercial REE initiatives and supply chain development.

    Accountabilities

  • Assist with design, development, testing, maintenance and repair of instrumentation and control systems for various research and development activities
  • Assist with maintaining LabVIEW based software programs
  • Prepare samples for analysis, conduct a variety of routine laboratory tests, assist with data collection and operate laboratory and pilot scale equipment
  • Coordinate logistics for materials and parts across various suppliers and SRC locations

    • Qualifications

  • A diploma in mechanical, instrumentation, electrical or design and manufacturing engineering technology; equivalent years of relevant experience without a diploma will be considered
  • Two to five years of experience is preferred, in areas such as: design and drafting (AutoCAD, Inventor, Plant 3D, Vault), software programming (LabVIEW, Python, Arduino), research and development testing and hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical systems

  • Highly motivated with a commitment to continuous learning in an innovative work environment
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow directions and work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Aptitude for instrumentation, controllers, robotics and machining
  • Basic fabrication skills and experience using hand and power tools

    • This position will require a flexible schedule during active testing periods, including evening and weekend shifts.

    (The chosen candidate will be required to provide an original Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to SRC prior to the commencement of any employment duties. The Criminal Record Check must have been executed within the preceding 30 days of receipt.)
