- Under general supervision & direction of the Principal Investigator, develop and implement original field, animal and laboratory-based experiments in the field of avian viral immunology following ethical guidelines
- Reliable and safe operation of all laboratory equipment
- Trains undergraduate and graduate students in the operation of equipment and laboratory protocols
- Use of various biological samples (eg. tissues, blood, swabs etc)
- Keep laboratory and work area clean and safe
- Establishes and maintains effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management and with the campus community.
- Manages own time effectively and ensures immediate reports to manager is kept informed of activities, and progress of work.
- Demonstrated strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines.
- Understanding of safety codes, standards, and systems related to specialization
- Bachelors Degree in a related field such as biology or laboratory science, is required
- 2 to 3 years of related technical experience within the research specialty field, avian viral immunology is required
- Extensive experience in in vivo experiments involving poultry is required
- Prior experience providing technical support for other team members through advice on technical lab issues is an asset
- Must be opened to learning and development and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments
- A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are critical to success

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
The Research Assistant's primary purpose is to assist the Principal Investigator and support the avian viral immunology research team through providing in vivo (poultry) and in vitro procedures.
