The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Regional Commander of North West Region is seeking one (1) qualified individual to join our Greenstone Detachment.

In this exciting, rewarding, and challenging opportunity, you will provide operational support to the detachment.

Note:
This is a twelve (12) month temporary assignment with the possibility of extension.

This position will be filled on a temporary basis and therefore there are no provisions for relocation, accommodation or travel (including meals or vehicles) for this position.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers.

We provide essential services that ensure the safety and security of the people of the Province of Ontario.

The OPP is a division of the Ministry of the Solicitor General, the largest operational ministry in the province with a presence in every community across Ontario.

We are the largest police service in Ontario and the second largest in Canada.

Detachment officers patrol approximately 210 kilometers of Highway 11, over 230 kilometers of secondary highways, and in excess of 1,600 kilometers of public forest access roads.

Located along the Trans-Canada Highway 11 in the heart of Northern Ontario, Greenstone is an amalgamated municipality made up of the former municipalities of the Township of Beardmore, the Town of Geraldton, the Township of Nakina, the Town of Longlac and the communities of Orient Bay, MacDiarmid, Jellicoe and Caramat.

In addition to providing policing to those above areas, Greenstone provides reactive policing services to Long Lake #58 First Nation as well as policing support services to Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) (Marten Falls and Aroland First Nation) and Anishinabek Police Service (APS) (Ginoogaming #77 First Nation).

To provide reception and administrative support to Detachment personnel in the co-ordination and processing of administrative services.
40 w.p.m. typing speed.

Ability to work 12 hour shifts in a 24-hour rotating shift environment.
Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures, Adequacy Standards, practices and techniques, WHMIS
Knowledge of and skill in computer operation and software including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint to produce court documents and type correspondence; knowledge of or ability to learn specific software applications to enter, update and retrieve data/information and perform queries.
Knowledge of community/social services agencies and referral process to provide information and assist the public.
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of office equipment such as photocopier and fax to photocopy material, transmit correspondence and documents, and maintain equipment in good working order, arranging for servicing as required.
