    Your opportunity:

    Reporting to the Chair and Associate Chair, Undergraduate, the incumbent will play a pivotal role in administering and providing student support to the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures' undergraduate programs. The position acts as the first point of contact undergraduate student program issues and supports the development of the undergraduate program by analyzing program delivery and internal processes and recommending improvements. The incumbent will develop strategies to promote the undergraduate program, maintain the department's communications platforms and help promote the department's exciting activities by coordinating internal and external messages and establishing outreach and leading community engagement events. The Undergraduate Administrator and Communications Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing social media operational procedures and best practices that support strategic objectives.

    Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising students on academic and/or financial matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
  • Providing detailed information on program and/or course eligibility requirements, procedures, policies and deadlines
  • Analyzing statistical information to inform enrollment projections and planning
  • Leading seminars and/or workshops
  • Delivering student recruitment presentations
  • Coordinating the preparation and distribution of program and/or course material
  • Writing and editing digital communications
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms
  • Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Arts or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum four years of recent and relevant undergraduate administrative experience in a post-secondary education institution.
  • Experience working in a bilingual environment (German and English) with a strong command of grammar in verbal and written English and German. Experience drafting, proofreading, and editing correspondence in German and English.
  • Experience administering humanities programming and knowledge of general trends in humanities disciplines.
  • Experience providing front-line student advising services and detailed information on programs of study and other related information through both face-to-face and digital media.
  • Experience coordinating tasks for projects and other strategicinitiatives with stakeholders.
  • Experience producing promotional and outreach materials.
  • Experience coordinating and implementing creative communication initiatives, preferably in a non-profit or an academic environment.
  • Experienceadministering scoial media platforms and writing for a web audience.
  • Familiarity with posting, tagging, and sharing strategies and procedures in popular social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, Reddit, etc.)
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Intermediate experience using ROSI, ROSI Express, Degree Explorer, Quercus, or similar student information systems, to enter data, retrieve information and compile reports.
  • Demonstrated skills and ability to provide effective guidance and advice to students in a responsive, empathetic, thoughtful and discreet manner.
  • Demonstrated strong student service orientation and experience fostering equity, diversity and inclusion in a post-secondary environment.
  • Working knowledge of graphic design principles for digital and print communication.
  • Assets (Nonessential):

  • Master of Arts in German Studies or Humanities Discipline.
