    The Opportunity

    New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) is committed to transforming lives and communities. The College is currently seeking dynamic and competent individuals for the position of Career Advisor (Counsellor I). When you work at NBCC, you are a valued team member and a part of a community of leaders who are driven by learning excellence and social and economic development.

    There are two Term employment opportunities available, to April 2026, with the possibility of extension or of becoming regular. These positions can be located at any NBCC campus within the following regions:

  • One successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and travelling to three NBCC campuses; Moncton, Miramichi and Woodstock.

    • What you'll do

    Responsibilities

    As part of the Student Services team and reporting to the Head of Counselling and Career Services, the Career Advisor provides career guidance and support to individuals seeking career development and exploration. You will work with students to assess their interests, skills and goals, and provide personalized recommendations and resources to help them make informed decisions regarding their career paths. Additionally, you will assist students in developing job search strategies, improving their job application materials, and enhancing their interview skills.

    Key Responsibilities include:

  • Coaching students in assessing their career interests, values and goals.
  • Helping students explore various career options and identify potential career paths based on their skills and aspirations.
  • Developing and delivering workshops and presentations on various career-related topics such as job search techniques, interview skills, career exploration, and networking.
  • Conducting group sessions to educate clients on industry trends and emerging job opportunities.
  • Coordinating and organizing the NBCC Career Fairs across all campuses, including scheduling, venue selection, communication, and logistical arrangements.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of career fairs through feedback collection and analysis and implementing improvements for future events.

    • What you'll need

    Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in a relevant discipline (Social Work, Human Resource Management, Human Services, Counselling) with related years of experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • Proven experience in career coaching or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of career development theories and assessments; familiarity with job market trends.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing support workshops and training, working collaboratively and with extended teams to support individual or group success.
  • High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Candidates must possess a valid Driver's License as travel will be required.
  • Highly flexible with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to navigate and build relationships effectively throughout the organization.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, analytical ability, and innovative thinking.
  • Self-motivated, service and results oriented.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and within a team.
  • A desire for continuous learning and growth.
  • Preference may be given to candidates who have experience working in a post-secondary environment.

    • Candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet these qualifications on their resumes.

    Other combinations of education and experience may be considered as equivalent. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be raised.
