Job Description

The Analyst, Accounting & Treasury will report directly to the Senior Manager, Accounting / Controller and will be closely supported by the Treasury Team Lead. The Analyst will be responsible for completing various accounting tasks during the period close, treasury-related duties, and special projects. This role will involve collaboration across different areas within the organization.

KEY PERFORMANCE METRICS

• Adhering to all period deadlines within the department to ensure a precise period end close
• Providing timely responses and assistance to internal queries for information
• Ensuring compliance with policies and practices while also maintaining IFRS compliance
• Satisfying all business partners with the team's outputs (finance, procurement, receiving, etc.)
• Effective communication skills with finance management to address challenges, opportunities, risks, and milestones

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Functional

• Evaluating historical and current financial data to comprehend a company's financial status, focusing primarily on the balance sheet, and assisting the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team with Profit & Loss (P&L) analysis
• Preparing journal entries with comprehensive supporting documentation and rationale for the period close
• Thoroughly completing account reconciliations, understanding balances, and investigating unreconciled items for prompt resolution
• Optimizing internal processes, identifying opportunities for automation, and implementing solutions where feasible
• Collaborating with business partners to evaluate and enhance business procedures
• Researching industry-specific business trends and data
• Providing reports, backup, and fulfilling ad hoc requests for internal and external auditors
• Completing financial reporting requirements on a monthly and quarterly basis
• Supporting the Treasury lead in updating the cash flow forecast regularly and managing weekly cash flow for payments
• Acting as the Corporate Card administrator for the organization, including overseeing the application process, monitoring card status, reconciling receipts and reports, and submitting them promptly
• Managing Concur Expense for the organization, including handling out-of-pocket expenses, ensuring policy compliance, and determining necessary accruals for the period close
• Collaborating with the AP team to process weekly payments electronically and via manual cheques
• Managing all bank transactions, overseeing data recording, handling cheque clearances, resolving exceptions, coordinating discrepancies with stores, etc.
• Maintaining relationships with banks and service providers
• Opportunity to support transactions, processes, and financial statement preparation for the Love Of Reading charitable foundation under Indigo
• Assisting treasury initiatives to optimize banking structures, functionality, and payment methods set up in the ERP to streamline processes
• Reviewing and enhancing policies related to Treasury, such as Corporate Cards and Travel & Expense, in collaboration with Procurement, Legal, and HR teams
• Providing financial analysis and insights to support business cases or post-initiative evaluations
• Participating in developing and implementing opportunities to streamline business processes
• Handling ad hoc requests and projects as assigned
• Advocating for the customer by prioritizing them in all design and decision-making processes
• Proactively anticipating and identifying customer expectations and needs
• Embracing and adopting technology for automated solutions to enhance efficiency and data integrity

Qualifications

Work Experience / Education / Certifications

• Post-secondary education in Commerce, Finance, Business, or Accounting, or equivalent
• CPA designation or nearing completion is advantageous
• 2-3 years of comparable experience
